Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the day to day operation of our 2nd shift Maintenance Department at our North Haven, CT facility. This position includes the supervision of hourly, full time and temporary staff in the Maintenance Department related to the operations and maintenance of the facility and its machinery. In addition, the Maintenance Supervisor has a dotted line reporting relationship to the Engineering/Technical Director.
Nature and Scope of Position
Nature: The Maintenance Supervisor is required to work within all related government legislation and company policies while ensuring business needs are met. The Maintenance Supervisor must be focused on continuous improvement within the maintenance department developing, implementing and maintaining appropriate standard operating procedures.
Scope: The Maintenance Supervisor must understand and keep abreast of the constantly changing requirements and characteristics of the business. This is necessary in order to ensure essential support relative to equipment maintenance which is an important aspect of business success both to the division and ultimately to the organization overall. The Maintenance Supervisor will ensure all necessary equipment and facility maintenance is performed and documented per prescribed company standards. The Maintenance Supervisor will ensure that all maintenance personnel are properly trained to perform the assigned tasks and documentation in accordance with company policy.
Implement and Lead safety initiatives.
Coordinate activities of Maintenance Department employees.
Oversee and schedule the preventative maintenance, lubrication and outside analysis on all plant equipment and ensure PM intervals are met. Carries and maintains the appropriate spare parts inventory for operating equipment.
Determine proper machinery rebuild or repair techniques to keep critical equipment downtime to an absolute minimum.
Performs construction foremen type duties if asked by Engineering when installing new equipment or additional equipment to current processes.
Ensures company vehicles are properly maintained per manufacture schedules.
Perform a daily plant walk-through and equipment inspection to determine the current operating condition of all plant systems equipment, machinery, and tools.
Performs routine, analytical test on equipment to resolve problems i.e. test & replace fuses, contactors, replace/rewire broken or worn out electrical motors, gearboxes, pumps, conveyor belts, fabricate or contract out parts as needed.
Perform analysis and take readings on ventilation equipment for dust control.
Perform analysis and maintenance on equipment as needed and provide assistance to the maintenance staff as required in the fabrication and maintenance of equipment.
The Maintenance Supervisor will keep the maintenance shop fully stocked and organized and will manage spare parts inventory.
Conduct shift meetings (e.g. Safety , operations, alerts, etc.).
Train employees on new standard work procedures and equipment .
Motivate, coach and discipline employees and manage performance for success.
Implement, monitor and enforce new and existing company policies including but not limited to maintenance standards, the provisions of machinery purchases, and small projects.
Perform Observation Behavioral Audits (OBA's) as required.
Monitors and anticipates staffing requirements and communicates to Human Resources.

TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Candidate must have 3+ years working experience in a supervisory role. Candidate must be able to operate basic hand tools properly. Excellent English verbal and written communication skills are required. Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Windows applications are required. Candidate should possess strong organizational skills in conjunction with priority management along with strong analysis and problem solving skills. Candidate should be able to take on new assignments as needed regardless of existing workload and work under deadlines and related stresses in a timely manner.
