The Maintenance Worker is under general supervision and performs work in a variety of skilled maintenance areas to include mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting and related areas.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
-Perform a variety of carpentry tasks in the construction and maintenance of buildings and other facilities.
-Perform a variety of plumbing tasks such as removing, replacing or repairing plumbing fixtures, water lines, etc.
-Perform minor electrical repairs such as replacing switches, outlets, ballasts and lights.
-Perform work of an unskilled, semi-skilled or skilled nature when necessary such as painting, masonry, etc.
-Perform a variety of mechanical tasks such as preventative maintenance on air compressors, exhaust fans, etc.
-Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
-Knowledge of methods, materials and procedures used in general repair and maintenance work.
-Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety procedures.
-Knowledge of machines, tools and equipment used in a variety of tasks as required.
-Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately.
-Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
-Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community and the public.
-Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
-Ability to use, clean, repair and maintain equipment, tools and machinery required in accomplishing tasks.
-Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions.
-Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
-Ability to work overtime as needed.
-High school graduate or equivalent.
-A minimum of three (3) years of previous work experience in building and plant maintenance involving a variety of work such as carpentry, painting, plumbing and mechanical.
-Valid driver’s license.
-Basic computer literacy.
-A background check will be required of the successful applicant.
