This position is located in the Tongass National Forest / Sitka Ranger District in Sitka, Alaska.

As a condition of employment, the incumbent must be able to obtain a Motor Vehicle Operator license, a CDL license, and a Small Untreated Water System Certificate within 6 months of start date.

The ability to obtain and maintain weapons certification is a condition of employment in this position as the incumbent will be required to carry a firearm. To maintain employment in this position the incumbent must receive a negative pre-certification drug test result, pass a minimum background investigation, pass firearm classroom training, pass the shooting proficiency test and be enrolled in the random drug testing pool while employed in this position.

The USDA Forest Service has legislative authority to recruit and fill Permanent (Career/Career-Conditional), Temporary, and Term Appointments under the USDA Demonstration Project. Under this authority, any U.S. citizen may apply. KEY REQUIREMENTS

Small Untreated Water System Certificate within 6 months of start date. DUTIES:

This position has a variety of responsibilities such as:
Provides support and assists in the safety policy development and/or technical activities of the safety program. Operates and maintains facilities, recreation sites, and water systems in accordance with plans. Uses a number of standard reference materials such as manufacturers' and technical manuals, specifications, work orders, etc., to plan and carry out assignments and troubleshoot issues. Applies a working knowledge of the basic principles of electronics and skill to repair and maintain a variety of limited function electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic components and devices. Assists in the operation and operational maintenance of gas, refuse derived fuel (RDF), wood, oil and coal fired power boilers, and auxiliary equipment with manual or automatic controls to produce saturated or superheated steam or high temperature hot water. Develops specifications and/or project orders from general scopes or work provided by the Division Chief and agency customers for maintenance and repair project. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

This position requires that the incumbent meet initial and continuing qualifications in the use of firearms as outlined in the Gun Control Act of 1968, amended by the Lautenberg Amendment of 1996.

DRUG TESTING: This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). Selectee must submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and random testing thereafter. Final appointment and continued employment is conditional on negative results for illegal drug use. This announcement constitutes 30 days advance notice.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

This position requires the selectee to obtain (within 6 months of start date) or possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and therefore, is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Department of Transportation (DOT)/Forest Service Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program. Applicant tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use unless they currently occupy a TDP under the DOT/Forest Service Alcohol and Controlled Substances Testing Program. Final appointment is conditional on a negative drug test. This announcement constitutes 30 days advance notice.

Ability to obtain a Small Untreated Water System Certificate within 6 months of start date.

You will be evaluated based on the category rating procedure as defined in the USDA Demonstration Project Plan. Applicants who meet the basic minimum qualification requirements established for the position will be placed in the Eligible category. Eligible applicants will be further evaluated against criteria for placement in the Quality category. This evaluation is based on the level of your experience, education, and/or training as determined by your responses to the Occupational Questionnaire.
