BASIC REQUIREMENTS: No specific length of experience, education or training is required. Applicant will be rated on the basis of their response to the assessment questions included in the vacancy announcement and the information contained in their resume to determine if you are best qualified. It is important that you answer these question to the best of your ability. List all pertinent experience and training on your resume, including part-time paid or unpaid, school, hobbies, military, etc that are related to the job duties for the position to be filled.
- Perform a full range of building and grounds maintenance and repair work. The job trades include plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, mechanical and ground keeping. Erects and works on scaffolding, working platforms and ladders.
- Carpentry: Erects minor new structures and modifies existing structures. Installs interior trim such as baseboards, base mold, toe mold, crown mold, chair rail, wainscoting used to enhance the appearance of the building. Uses maintenance methods and alteration work to construct additions to existing structures, relocate doors, windows, window panes and relocate partitions. Compute and makes allowance for deviations for the length of rafters sheathing, overhangs, exterior siding, and roofs. Cuts materials to size and assembles and/or installs shelving, bulletins boards, erects scaffolding, rough cabinets and other items.
- Plumbing and Electrical : Installs, modifies and repairs water and waste disposal systems. Installs plumbing equipments such as sinks, lavatories, bathtubs, showers, etc. Installs pumps, valves, control and fittings; locating openings for equipment to be installed. Locates broken, worn, damaged or poorly operating wiring, fixtures, controls, and equipment through visual checks and with a variety of test equipment such as lamps and ammeters. Removes, replaces, tighten, splices, solders, and insulates defective wiring, controls, and equipment fixtures. Installs or rearranges light fixtures, switches, and outlets.
- Painting and Ground Care: Determines type and amount of paint, lacquer, varnish, or primer to be used according to weather and climate conditions, texture, and composition of surfaces. Mixes and blends paint. Prepare and paints surfaces such as building structures and furniture.
- Mechanical Repair: Makes repair to hospital beds, stretchers, wheel chairs, IV stands. Makes repairs to kitchen, central sterile and physical therapy equipment. Performs trades in lower graded area such as masonry and welding. Uses a variety of hand tools and equipments to perform the various trade duties.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequent lifting and carry tools and equipment weighing up to 50 or beyond. Climbing and working at height on ladders, scaffolding and platforms. Continually standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in small or cramped quarters.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is usually performed inside and outside in all kinds of weather and us usually dirty, dusty, and greasy. Frequent exposure to possibility of scrapes, burns, and infections and has occasional exposure to broken bones. May perform work where bad smelling fumes are present.
OTHER SIGNIGICANT FACTORS: Subject to working rotating shifts, both on weekdays and weekends. Subject to call back after normal duty hours, on weekends and holidays. Required to operate government owned or leased vehicles in the performance of assigned duties; therefore must maintain a valid drivers license.
