About the Position:

This is a permanent seasonal position located at Dworshak Dam and Reservoir, Ahsahka, ID, a multi-purpose hydropower project, with missions that include operation and maintenance of the facility for flood control, hydroelectric power generation, recreation and natural resources management. Dworshak Project has approximately 50 employees.

Dworshak Dam and Reservoir, found in North Central Idaho along the North Fork of the Clearwater River, is located in scenic forested and mountainous country. Orofino, ID is located seven miles from the dam and has a population of approximately 4,000 and is at an elevation of 1,025 feet. With an average temperature of 29 degrees in January and 73 degrees in July, Orofino is known for it's mild weather and long growing season. DUTIES: As a Maintenance Worker, you perform a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled tasks involving standard methods related to the operation and maintenance of physical plant facilities and public use areas at a completed reservoir. The facilities include, but are not limited to: levees, shop facilities, water supply, toilets, picnic tables, operating equipment, sewage treatment plants, fireplaces, parking lots, trailer handstands, roadways, sidewalks, playground equipment, bulletin boards, directional signs, shelters. etc. The work requires some adaptation of standardized trade and craft processes and techniques so as to permit regular performance of a variety of sub journeyman skill level trade tasks. Properly handles and cares for the hand and powered tools that may be used. Is required to be tactful in contacts with the public and to perform work in accordance with safety procedures and regulations so as to prevent injury to self and others or damage to material, equipment, and facilities. Performs a combination of the following typical, but not all inclusive, assignments with or without the assistance of the supervisor: Carpentry, Painting, Plumbing, and General Maintenance and Labor. Motor Vehicle and Boat operation are required.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: SCREEN OUT ELEMENT: Without more than normal supervision, must have the ability to perform routine maintenance to include carpentry, painting, and plumbing repairs; experience building and repairing fences, pruning trees, finishing concrete, warehousing supplies, etc.; have experience using a variety of hand and power tools safely and correctly.
Failure to meet the screen out element will result in an ineligible rating.

Application packages will be reviewed and screened for experience and/or raining which provided the knowledge of:
  • Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair
  • Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
  • Use of Measuring Instruments
  • Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications (includes blueprint reading)
  • Knowledge of Materials
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Exerts very heavy physical effort in doing such tasks as lifting and moving objects weighing over 50 pounds and pushing wheelbarrow loads of cement. Physical dexterity is needed to handle tools and work around machinery or equipment. Work requires special care to avoid injuries.

WORKING CONDITIONS: The majority of the work is performed outside in all kinds of weather and temperatures. There is exposure to insect and snakebites. Subject to cuts and bruises common to users of hand and power tools. Some tasks may be performed inside. Is exposed to traffic hazards while driving on both improved and unimproved road surfaces. At times, works in cramped quarters and in water. May be required to work under wet and muddy conditions on steep or uneven terrain.
