Located fifty miles east of St. Louis, Carlyle Lake offers the peaceful retreat of a small town combined with the grandeur of Illinois' largest manmade lake. Assigned to a Lake Project Office with responsibility for performing a variety of tasks incidental to maintaining and operating the administrative and recreational facilities within the Project area. Facilities involved include roads, beaches, trails, fencing, picnic and camping areas, comfort stations, shower buildings, boat launching ramps and areas, parking areas, an administrative complex containing facilities for the public, offices, and garages; the Lake Dam and appurtenant control house; and pump stations.
The incumbent will also serve as an inmate monitor for the Carlyle Lake Project Office. Receives inmates brought to the project by guard in a van from the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Works along with inmate crew, setting the pace. Passes on to other workers instructions received from supervisor, and starts work by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led.
Screen Out Element: Ability to do the work of this position with minimal supervision. After receiving a work order, I determine tools; methods and sequence of work with no additional supervision. Typically working at a remote area with no additional supervision until task completion.

Physical effort: Works from ladders, scaffolds, and on platforms in cramped and hard to reach places. Stands, stoops, bends, kneels, climbs, and works in awkward, tiring and uncomfortable positions. Moderate to heavy physical effort is involved, frequently lifting, moving, and carrying items up to 50 pounds while loading and unloading cargo, handling heavy equipment, parts, tools and materials, pushing wheelbarrows and running power mowers. Considerable arm movement in painting, carpentry and engineering equipment operating work.
Working Conditions: Works inside and outside exposed to all weather conditions. Exposed to dust, dirt, grease, oils, and noisy conditions. Inside work is usually performed on concrete floors. Area is frequently inadequately heated and cooled. May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty including evenings, holidays and weekends. Appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment is provided to minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions and its use is mandatory
