The Maintenance Worker is part of a team based in San Jose or in Menlo Park. The team works at 17 major sites spanning two counties from San Jose to Daly City. Job duties require a skilled “handyman” with construction experience to make minor to intermediate level repairs at our various shelter, housing, and program sites. Our maintenance team also participates in warehousing and driving duties associated with in-kind donations; preparation for, and participation in, group volunteer projects; set up and move of furniture for client units, work spaces, or meeting rooms; general clean-up; and support of outsourced pest control, gardening or landscaping, and janitorial services.

Primary Duties Safety is a primary focus at IVSN and our maintenance team has an important role in maintaining safe facilities, as well as providing clean, welcoming, and well-functioning facilities for the community we serve – staff, clients, volunteers, donors, and other supporters. Agency vehicles and tools and equipment are used in conducting IVSN business. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Building repairs and maintenance
    • Patching walls and doors
    • Carpentry work on doors, windows, fences, roofs
    • Preparing and painting interior and exterior spaces
    • Replacing fixtures and partitions, plaster, drywall
    • Handling flooring changes, removing and replacing existing floors and replacing with laminate, carpet, etc
    • Installing or repairing glass, tile, screens, locks, drapes, blinds
  • Electrical repairs to appliances, fixtures, switches and circuits
  • Plumbing repairs to water and sewage systems, including replacement of fittings and clearing of stoppages
  • Inspecting own work for timely and quality completion and reporting of status
  • Identifying unreported maintenance needs, especially potentially unsafe facility issues
  • Safeguarding agency assets, including materials, tools, and equipment used by the maintenance team
  • Five years of maintenance and/or construction experience
  • Medical clearance to lift 75 pounds, including lifting 10 pounds overhead
  • Ability to scale ladder and use various provided tools and related equipment
  • Valid California driver license and proof of personal auto insurance for our agency insurance
  • High school diploma or equivalent, some college a plus
  • Clear oral and written communication skills to receive general direction and report status
  • Ability to work independently and also as a contributing team member
  • Interpersonal skills which result in positive customer service
  • Computer skills for regular business functions
