Job Summary : The maintenance worker position is an entry level position into the department. Performs various duties in any trade and receives on-the-job training. Performs other duties as needed. Job Specifications : High School diploma or GED required. No experience required. Valid California driver’s license required. May be assigned emergency work outside of normal working hours. Must be able to use all tools, equipment, and machinery necessary for maintenance work. Must be able to operate and maintain light mechanical equipment. Must be able to work effectively in chemical protective clothing and equipment. Must be able to work well with others under time pressure. Teamwork and cooperation in problem solving is essential. Able to demonstrate a calm and professional demeanor. Ability to communicate risks to supervisor and/or co-workers. Work requires concentration on and awareness of several tasks simultaneously. Use math skills to solve problems. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must be able to see, hear, smell, taste, and touch well enough to perform job duties, determine potential hazards, and communicate effectively in person and over the phone.
