The Martha O'Bryan Center is a creative activist ministry serving over 6,000 people in Nashville each year through early learning education, youth development, Work Ready job placement, family resource center community/social services and East End Prep K-5 charter school.

The Maintenance Worker reports to the Director of Operations and works with the Operations Team to clean, maintain, repair, and improve buildings, grounds, and technology infrastructure; set up, take down, and move furniture and other property and equipment; load, unload, maintain, and drive vehicles; troubleshoot security and safety issues; identify/mark and resolve unsafe conditions, and protect property; and store, inventory, and distribute supplies and materials.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Carpentry: Install shelves, hang or swap door, hang blinds and drapes, operate power saws.
Computer/Office Skills: Able to use internet search engine to research resolutions to issues, log on and use wireless internet, set up/move a computer into an office space/test/install programs, troubleshoot software and other IT issues, able to use MS Office, able to create and maintain files and filing structure, able to manage deadlines/prioritize/multi-task.
Cleaning/Custodial: Strip and wax floor tile, dry clean carpet.
Electrical/Lighting: cut and bend conduit, replace ballasts and starters, replace an outlet or fixture.
Electronic: Operate security system, clear faults in the fire alarm system, connect telephone and computer jacks and cables.
Landscaping: Trim tree limbs with chain saw, arrange, drill, and spike landscape timbers, service lawn mower and other poser tools, fertilize.
Lock/Hardware-smithing: Assemble/disassemble lock set, move lock set, repair towel dispenser, repair fence gates, hinges, and drop rods.
Project management: Create projects and manage volunteers efficiently, self motivated, ability to notice issues that need attention without having them pointed out.
Masonry/Concrete: Set forms and steel for concrete, mix concrete and mortar, cut/break brick/block.
Painting/Drywall: do painting trim work, paint with oil-based paints, install metal wall studs, hang drywall, tape flat joints, cut and install ceiling tile, install or straighten ceiling grid, install floor tile and cove base, paint parking lot lines.
Plumbing: Replace toilet wax ring, rout out drain system, change faucet washers, repair plastic piping systems.
Stage Craft: Arrange and set up non-standard stage equipment, operate gym lights, set up sound system.
Vehicle Maintenance: change tires, change hose or belt, tighten emergency brake, do minor body work, replace bumper, repair minor glass dings, repair upholstery or seats make minor engine adjustments and tune-up services..
Vehicle Operation: Make a Food Bank trip, make a community service trip, verify current status of license plates and county stickers, review a log book, fuel a vehicle.
Contributes to the team effort by willingly participating in staff meetings and functions and accomplishes other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
