The Minnehaha County Juvenile Detention Center invites applications for a Maintenance Worker to perform custodial, maintenance, and repair work on the Center's facility and grounds. The position hours are from 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday - Friday, but may be occasionally called in outside of that schedule for maintenance issues or snow removal.

Examples of Duties Include:

Perform outdoor maintenance, snow removal, and lawn maintenance by operating equipment including a snow blower, pickup with a snow plow, mowing and trimming equipment, and County vehicles. Perform custodial duties including dusting, vacuuming, waxing and stripping floors, cleaning carpets, emptying trash, and cleaning restrooms. Perform indoor building maintenance including changing filters, light bulbs, and faucet washers; painting; and ordering and re-stocking supplies. Maintain restrooms and shower rooms including changing flush valves and air lock shower valves and light plumbing work including unplugging sinks, showers, and toilets. Perform minor electrical work including changing electronic ballasts in lights, electric motors on fans, and stove burners. Perform minor maintenance on vehicles and monitor fuel levels. Repair locks. Troubleshoot problems with the main control board and heating/cooling system.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED plus one year of work experience in a related position or comparable combination of education and experience. Must have a valid driver's license. Basic working knowledge of procedures, techniques, and standards of repair, and maintenance and operation of a wide variety of hand and power tools. Basic understanding of the safety guidelines involved with the use of tools, equipment, and materials. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public. Ability to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of plumbing techniques and electrical repair.
