Temporary seasonal maintenance worker position open at Bannack State Park. Position 96309 works from May until September, approximately 40 hours per week. The work schedule will vary to meet the needs of the park and may include weekends, holidays and evenings.
Maintains buildings, grounds and related facilities to include potable water system sampling; equipment repairs; electrical repairs for 110 and 220 volt systems; mowing; weed and pest control using chemical, mechanical and biological controls; garbage collection; cleaning of latrines; litter pick-up, etc. Assists Bannack personnel with construction, painting, installing and maintaining fences, signs, roads and parking lots; assists with historic preservation projects, special events and volunteer projects. Uses a wide variety of power and hand tools including table saw, radial arm saw, chop saw, drill press, router, circular saw, belt sander, chain saw, screw gun, generator, compressor, oxy-acetylene torch, welder, jackhammer, shovels, bars, picks, etc. Maintains accurate records. Compiles monthly reports. May occasionally operate Visitor Center collecting fees, answering questions and operating the cash register. Will assist with interpretive/educational programs, including school tours.
Must be able to deal with the public in a polite and professional manner. Knowledge of Bannack and early Montana history is desirable. Ability to perform manual labor using hand and power tools safely, to follow written and verbal instructions and maintain effective work relationships. Must have the ability to communicate effectively and clearly. Experience in parks and recreation preferred. Must become certified in basic Red Cross first aid and CPR during training unless already certified. Must have a valid driver's license.

The knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the duties of this position are usually acquired through a high school education and one year of experience in construction, general maintenance or related fields. Must have experience in the safe operation, repair and maintenance of hand and power tools, mowers and weed eaters. Must be physically able to perform routine maintenance activities such as lifting 50 pounds, garbage pick-up, operating equipment for long hours, and painting and general repairs.
