The work schedule will be Sunday-Thursday. The required knowledge, skills and abilities will be measured through an evaluation of the application, oral interview, and reference checks. This position is a temporary position.
This temporary maintenance position entails a variety of outdoor duties and tasks including emptying garbage, cleaning restrooms, facility repair (light construction), weed control, mowing, trimming and watering, cleaning campsites, fire rings and grills, litter removal, equipment operation, and supervision of other maintenance positions. This will involve travel and some hiking. In addition, this position may be asked to collect park fees. Contact with visitors to hand out printed information, answer questions, and provide customer service will be required.
Experience in cleaning, general maintenance, janitorial, landscaping, operation of chainsaws, mowers and medium size tractors is preferred. Experience operating a road grader is preferred, so please indicate experience on application. Must be physically able to perform routine activities, which may require lifting 50-pound objects. Applicants must have the ability to coordinate with supervisor, develop a cooperative relationship with park visitors, and must be able to follow verbal and written instructions. Must have a valid drivers license. Ability to work in environmental extremes for long periods of time is required in addition to long periods of standing. Incumbent must be able to deal with angry or verbally abusive individuals who are dissatisfied with FWP policies and actions.
The knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the duties of this position are typically acquired through completion of high school, with a minimum of two years of experience working at a state park or on other outdoor maintenance projects. Other combinations of education and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis.
