Temporary seasonal maintenance worker position open at Missouri Headwaters State Park. Position 96314 works from May until September, approximately 40 hours per week. The work schedule will vary to meet the needs of the park and may include weekends, holidays and evenings.
The employee will work under the supervision of the Missouri Headwaters and Madison Buffalo Jump Park Manager. The employee's mission or function will be to work as a maintenance worker at Missouri Headwaters and Madison Buffalo Jump State Parks. This position will work from a duty station located at Missouri Headwaters State Park near Three Forks, Montana. The employee will perform a wide variety of skilled, semi-skilled or manual work repairing, constructing and maintaining buildings, grounds and related facilities at Missouri Headwaters and Madison Buffalo Jump State Parks. The employee is required to work along with the regional maintenance staff, camp hosts, volunteers and other parks staff. The employee will be expected to work independently on various occasions, as assigned.
Maintains buildings, grounds and related facilities to include the following: potable water system sampling; equipment repairs; mowing; weed and pest control using chemical, mechanical and biological controls; garbage collection; cleaning of latrines; litter pick-up, etc. Assists regional parks personnel with construction projects, painting, installing and maintaining fences, signs, roads and parking lots; assists with historic preservation projects, special events and volunteer projects. Uses a wide variety of power and hand tools including circular saws, chain saws, screw guns, generator, compressor, power washers, shovels, bars, picks, etc. Maintains accurate records for monthly reports. May occasionally operate park's office collecting fees, answering questions and operating the cash register. Will assist with interpretive/educational programs, including school tours.
Must be able to deal with the public in a polite and professional manner. Ability to perform manual labor using hand and power tools safely, to follow written and verbal instructions and maintain effective work relationships. Must have the ability to communicate effectively and clearly. Experience in parks and recreation preferred. Must become certified in basic Red Cross first aid and CPR during training unless already certified. Must have a valid driver's license.

The knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the duties of this position are usually acquired through a high school education and one year of experience in construction, general maintenance or related fields. Must have experience in the safe operation, repair and maintenance of hand and power tools, mowers and weed eaters. Must be physically able to perform routine maintenance activities such as lifting 50 pounds, garbage pick-up, operating equipment for long hours, and painting and general repairs.
