School/Unit Harvard Graduate School of Education Sub-Unit ------------ Location USA - MA - Cambridge Job Function Alumni Affairs and Development Time Status Full-time Department Development and Alumni Relations Salary Grade 058 Union 00 - Non Union, Exempt or Temporary Duties & Responsibilities The Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) office of the Harvard Graduate School of Education seeks a Regional Director – Major Gifts who will be responsible for raising new pledges and gifts ($100k) for HGSE by prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship of major gift prospects and donors. Candidate will work closely with Sr. Regional Director and Co – Director of Major Gifts department on campaign strategy and execution. Actively identifies new prospects, manages fundraising activities in designated region, including any visits by HGSE Dean and maintains portfolio.
The Regional Director will:
Work collaboratively with other DAR major gift colleagues, UDO research team and other colleagues across the University to expand prospect pool,
Plan and manage small events related to cultivation, solicitation and/or stewardship of major gift prospects and donors.
Collaborate with marketing and communication team to present materials which showcase HGSE’s work of faculty and students.
Work closely and collaboratively with HGSE’s Sr. Leadership team, faculty, and DAR colleagues, engages them for volunteer fundraising efforts, where applicable.
Effectively manage involvement of the Dean, Co-Directors of DAR and other faculty/staff with assigned prospects and donors where appropriate.
Prepare briefings and talking points for HGSE Dean prior to visits, coordinates and manages the travel and meetings of the Dean. Complete follow up activities post meetings and trips.
Identify and recruit members for the Dean’s Leadership Council. Work with Co – Directors for engagement strategies.
Participate in Major Gift strategy meetings and other appropriate meetings, internal University Development Office and DAR.
Actively prospect to build portfolio. Collaborate with research team and DAR’s information technology department for data collection, mining and cataloging.
Maintain awareness of relevant trends and events in philanthropy, education, HGSE, and the Harvard community.
Co – supervise a major gift coordinator.
Participate in HGSE, UDO trainings and ad hoc committee activities.
May participate in special projects.
Other duties to be assigned as needed.
This position has a 6 month orientation and review period. Basic Qualifications BA and at least 5 years of experience in fundraising; proven record of successfully working with prospects and donors securing gifts in the $100,000 range. A minimum of 25% - 30 % travel will be required. Additional Qualifications Demonstrated record of relationship management with unaffiliated constituents that have resulted in new gifts and pledges, experience at an institution of higher education or innovative non – profit , preferably in education preferred; excellent verbal and written communication skills, entrepreneurial, achievement – oriented, self-motivated, initiative and drive; ability to operate effectively in a high paced complex environment, strong organizational skills, commitment to issues facing education, passionate about HGSE’s mission, demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across organizational boundaries. Discretion of confidential information is a must. Ability to work independently, collaborate with colleagues at all levels and function as part of a team.
