Position Summary The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) focuses outside the workforce campaign on Tocqueville and Cole Society revenue and membership growth. The MGO is responsible for planning and executing strategies to drive year-over-year net increase in revenue (dollars) and membership (donors), while reducing donor turnover, in accordance with the plan. Recommitting the current donor base is mission critical to success. This position will be proactive in developing personal relationships with outside the workplace campaign current and prospective donors and strengthening their connectivity with UWMA. The Major Gifts Officer will increase the number of Tocqueville and Cole level gifts outside the workforce campaign by executing individualized plans to identify, cultivate, solicit and secure gifts working independently and in conjunction with Development Officers, Employee Campaign Managers, Resource Development Leads, Loaned Executives and society cabinet volunteers. Responsibilities • Create, prioritize, direct and achieve the growth plan for the assigned Tocqueville Society book of business outside the workplace at a net growth rate number (donors) and percentage (dollars) consistent with the plan • Maintaining an active, identified pipeline of 25 prospects • Engage volunteers, board members and UWMA staff in the sales process • Manage the preparation of donor and advisor presentations • Conduct personal visits to sustain one-on-one relationships with donors • Offer mission based luncheons/dinner/seminars/engagement/volunteerism to donors, connecting with the work and leveraging volunteer sponsorship • Maintain Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tracking system (maintaining records, contact information, and donor database) • Provide referrals to Planned Giving Officer, Principal Gifts Officer and Grants and Foundations or Gift Officer as appropriate • Work well independently and be self-motivated in initiating contacts with potential and existing donors • Work in collaboration with the Major Gifts and Campaign teams in creating and implementing strategies for cultivation, solicitation and closure • Determine whether an individual is capable of making a major gift or leadership gift and devise appropriate strategies to bring this individual to solicitation and closure • Make decision on cultivation time vs. expected gift response, determine who needs to be involved in the relationship (be it an executive volunteer or staff) with the donor, and decide the most effective and productive use of time.

Education Requirements: • Bachelors Degree in Marketing, Communications or related field

Experience Requirements: • Minimum of 5 years experience in a fundraising
  • Basic understanding of customer contact or CRM systems and fundraising database programs and software
  • Excellent presentation and personal communication skills
  • Understanding of fundraising database programs and software
  • Proven experience in cultivating and soliciting prospects capable of five and six figure gifts
  • Broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising and able to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle: identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship.
  • Understanding of the needs and interests of major donors in order to develop relationships between them and United Way
  • Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multifunctional or diverse areas
  • Solid relationship-building skills, able to comfortably interface with high-wealth individuals
  • Able to articulate the case for support so that individuals “buy in” to the vision/mission/goals and with sufficient effectiveness to secure gifts at assigned donor giving levels
  • Must be able to travel around the metropolitan Atlanta region; use of an automobile is required
  • Must have valid driver’s license; weekend and evening work is required
