The Baggage Operations Manager collaborates with necessary personnel to facilitate improved baggage transfers in order to enhance customer service. Reviews and analyzes reports, records, and directives, and confers with supervisors to obtain data required for baggage handling activities, such as new commitments, status of work in progress, and problems encountered. Assigns, or delegates responsibility for, specified work or functional activities and disseminates policy to supervisors. Gives work directions, resolves problems, and sets deadlines to ensure timely completion of work. Coordinates activities of department with related activities of other departments to ensure efficiency and economy. Monitors and analyzes trends with baggage handling and make necessary changes. Prepares reports and records on department activities for upper management, using computer. Evaluates current procedures and practices for accomplishing baggage handling objectives to develop and implement improved procedures and practices. Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals. Recommends or initiates personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures. Responsible for ensuring compliance of all regulations in regards to checked bags. Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.

Job Requirements
Ideal candidates will have the ability to concurrently handle multiple responsibilities and various projects. Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate employees in working as a team are needed. Must be decisive and be able to work under demanding operational conditions in a stressful environment. Willing and able to establish excellent working relationship with unions, vendors, local airport authorities, the FAA, other Federal agencies and other airlines

Position Requirements
  • Minimum Age: 18
  • College degree or equivalent work experience
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Working proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations
  • Previous working experience demonstrating strong analytical skills and the ability to study large pieces of data to prepare numerical and graphical depictions of performance
  • When applicable, may be required to work rotating shifts, nights and weekends including working extra hours when there are operation needs such as weather delays
  • Must possess the legal right to work in the United States
  • Must be able to read, write, fluently speak, and understand the English language
Position Preferences
  • Advanced Sabre and bag coding knowledge
  • Working knowledge of Cognos and other software tools
  • Previous experience developing and overseeing department budgets
  • Ability to manage employees of all levels
  • Proven ability to work well with unionized workgroups
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Additional Employment Requirements
  • If applicable to the position, a candidate must fulfill a fingerprint-based criminal background check to qualify for unescorted access privileges to airport security identification display areas ( SIDA )
  • Candidates must also be able to secure appropriate airport authority and/or US customs security badges, if applicable
  • This position may be subject to Department of Transportation (DOT) testing; Federal law requires American Eagle to determine an applicant's history of Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and/or alcohol violation(s) or refusal(s) to test before hiring him/her into a safety-sensitive position
