Manager, Business Analytics
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Manages the daily operations of the Business Analytics business unit engaged in the analysis and support of process redesign, reporting and customer retention metrics; leads, motivates, and coaches individuals on the Business Analytics team; provides consistent and constructive feedback to employees; monitors the progress of employees; assesses resource availability to supply the needs of business units; establishes priorities, schedules daily work, and is responsible for staffing; manages special projects at a functional level
Identifies overall analytical training needs, to include seeking vendors to provide training when necessary; assesses changes in the business and analytical environment that require additional training of business analysts to support (e.g., movement toward more detailed process model flows and business rules analysis); oversees the acclimation of new employees to the Business Analytics team; sets job overview schedule within the business units and related support areas to assist the analysts with learning more about the areas they will be supporting; provides regular job overviews as analysts gain more time in position and as processes change in the various business and support areas
Educates the Business Analytics team about the insurance operations business strategy along with its correlation to analytics’ requests being submitted; assists with modifying the business strategy/IT strategy alignment regarding Business Intelligence data and tools, as business and technology change; provides recommendations on how to improve the deliverables
Manages the review, evaluation, design, implementation, and maintenance of divisional databases; improves business processes and supports critical business strategies by managing the development, implementation, and maintenance of business application reporting systems; assists in the development of strategies for data acquisitions, archive recovery, and implementation of a database; assists in the identification of data sources, and maps reporting processes and procedures to write reporting rules; directs the writing of code for database/query design and the rules associated with access and processing in those databases/queries
Ensures analytics are aligned with the company’s strategic goals; defines the division’s process improvement needs and related information systems requirements jointly with management and department users; works to identify technical solutions that satisfy the business needs for the future; performs independent reviews of problem situations, develops solutions, and implements action steps to resolve problems and ensure customer satisfaction; reviews submitted project requests for similarities and identifies when programs are needed to monitor projects; stays abreast of industry trends and changes, incorporating best practices in the development of technology, quality standards, policies, and programs; identifies and monitors technology enhancement possibilities and recommends ways to apply to process improvement and/or process re-engineering to data, tools, and technology; ensures that current and historical information is maintained on deliverables via the Business Analytics tracking system
Provides staffing models to all areas of Internal Operations and Aflac Group, to include training other areas on staffing model properties and usage; conducts annual reviews of staffing model effectiveness and updates models, as needed, in partnership with business units
Ensures that any metrics produced by Internal Operations and Aflac Group and
that appear or are distributed to external financial analysts are accurate; ensures that the formulas, calculations, sources, etc. of these metrics are documented and available for reference; partners with business units annually to review and update such metrics;
oversees the creation, maintenance and updates of all Aflac Account and Policyholder Retention metrics and analysis for U.S. Operations, to include Aflac Group
Plans, organizes, and
implements feasibility studies; recommends and monitors development and implementation of projects on behalf of the business units to ensure that they support strategic goals, meet the functional needs of the user, and are integrated smoothly into the environment; conducts JAD sessions as necessary
Reviews, analyzes and provides guidance for metrics, project plans and executive level presentations; regularly supports and is involved in strategic planning efforts for U.S. Operations and provides analysis, reporting and recommendations to executive teams related to strategic planning.
Prepares and oversees executive reporting for Internal Operations; supports executive reporting for U.S. Operations; prepares the Internal Operations annual report that appears in the Aflac Incorporated Annual Report each year, and is presented at annual Financial Analyst Briefings (FAB) and to Wall Street analysts
Performs other duties as required
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, or a related field and five years of professional job-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Two years experience in a leadership/senior/supervisory capacity in a diverse work environment
Job Knowledge & Skills
Strong project planning and management skills, to include cost benefit analysis
of budgeting and expense control to plan, implement, and control expenditures of funds while maintaining and improving quality standards
Knowledge of employee relations to conduct and deal with employee issues in a proactive manner
Excellent presentation, oral, writing, and interpersonal communications skills to effectively interact and negotiate with internal/external customers and senior management
Knowledge of the corporate governance process
