We are seeking a talented and experienced manager to lead our Buying team. Our buyers are responsible for sourcing hundreds of new vendors and products for each Wayfair business vertical. We pride ourselves on selection across styles and price points within the home furnishings and décor sectors, along with other categories such as luggage, home improvement, baby gear, housewares, and much more. The ideal candidate has a background in either e-commerce or brick and mortar retail. Specific experience as a senior buyer leading vendor negotiations, planning and/or managing teams of buyers is helpful.

You will be a self-starter with passion for our product catalogue, and a creative problem solver. You’ll know our competitors inside and out, and focus on how we can take market share from them through strategic selection build outs. You’ll be dynamic—as comfortable leading a supplier dinner in Las Vegas as you are analyzing sales reports. There is plenty of room for team-building and process improvement, so we are seeking an innovative person to bring good ideas and plans to the role.

Job Requirements

Manage a team of 10+ direct and indirect reports. Hire, train and motivate the buying team to drive the desired results.

Work closely with senior leadership within Category Management and Operations to prioritize new vendor addition opportunities and achieve throughput goals.

Quickly get up to speed on our business verticals, research the key vendors and product selection needs across the business, and understand Wayfair’s competitive position within each vertical.

Represent Wayfair at major industry trade shows; regularly engage senior executives at prospective vendors.

Measure and track key performance indicators for the Buying team, such as SKU count goals, vendor programs, quality metrics, and throughput metrics.

Optimize trade show efficiency and plans by partnering with Category Management teams to plan schedules and itineraries.

Ultimately own and close selection & style gaps within Wayfair’s catalog, systematically filling the gaps working in concert with Category Management teams.

Design and update current technology, tools and related systems to improve vendor management, efficiency and record keeping as well as lead generation.

Special Skills & Responsibilities

Strong negotiator with the ability to adapt to real-time discussions to optimize outcomes.

Experience managing relationships with vendors, service providers or similar responsibilities.

Personable and energetic; enjoy constantly meeting new people and networking within various industries.

Proven manager that can develop new hires and existing talent, while creating a hard-working-yet-enjoyable atmosphere.

Savvy with MS Excel and organizing copious amounts of data to build and track performance dashboards. Knowledge of SQL and database structures is a plus.

Ability and willingness to travel, at times extensively, to various industry trade shows.
