Manages, coordinates and supervises the collection of data and the coding and reimbursement section of the Health Information Services Department. Demonstrates leadership skills in creating and maintaining an effective coding team. Ensures accurate and timely coding for reporting, casemix and reimbursement purposes. Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements. Provides coding and prospective payment education to Coders, Physician Advisor, Medical Staff and other health professionals and administrative personnel as necessary. Acts as a liaison to the Medical Staff and other health care providers. Provides regular feedback to providers regarding documentation requirements as they affect reimbursement. Works with Physician advisors in promoting accurate coding and education sessions to the coders. Coordinates the function of the Physician Coding Advisory Committee. Provides education, as needed, to physicians and departments.

Qualifications:
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA); Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) strongly preferred
Bachelor’s degree, preferred
5 years with at least 3 years of management/supervisory experience in healthcare, supervising a staff of at least 5 or more preferred

Other Special Skills – Preferred
Proficiency in a suite of Microsoft Office applications Five years coding experience (ICD-9-CM and CPT-4) Ability to interact and communicate with staff on all levels, including Medical Staff and Administration.
