The Manager, Conservation & Education Philanthropy will be responsible for the management of corporate foundations, private foundations, and government fundraisings for assigned programs and donors; researching and identifying new funding opportunities to build donor relationships; and systems management and tracking.
Management –Foundation and Government Fundraising
Provide guidance to program staff on general fundraising methodologies and NWF procedures.
In coordination with NWF Program and Development staff, manage all aspects of revenue generation from corporate, foundation and government sources for assigned programs/portfolio.
Serve as the relationship manger for assigned donors in their portfolio; assume responsibility for tracking funding priorities, ongoing NWF conversations and cultivation strategies.
Determine work group for each activity; prepare a schedule of activity; and drafts, edit and manage the development of proposals, pre-proposals, concept papers, letters of inquiry, program reports, and grant reports from assigned programs.
Actively collaborate with key staff in other departments to gather required input for funding proposals, reports and general donor inquiries.
Donor Cultivation and Prospecting
Prepare donor briefings for program staff and senior staff prior to visits.
Proactively create new funding opportunities through introductory phone calls/meetings and effectively steward new relationships with immediate follow up.
Identify corporate, foundation, and government funding opportunities for assigned national and regional conservation and education programs using various research resources.
Collaborate with the Regional Development Managers to compare/share prospect lists and design cultivation strategies to generate new fundraising opportunities.
Assist in prioritizing key actions for the Director of Conservation and Education Philanthropy and NWF Vice Presidents, and select Regional Executive Directors to cultivate, solicit and steward donors through external meetings and calls.
Systems management and tracking
Ensure Raiser’s Edge records are accurate and up-to-date for assigned prospects and funders.
Create and maintain data tools that will help track and report fundraising efforts in assigned program area.
Collaborate with the Director of Conservation and Education Philanthropy to develop tracking/reporting tools and support systems to ensure that Conservation and Education Philanthropy team is effectively and efficiently managing team’s overall portfolio.
Analyze historical and market data to support the Director set ambitious yet feasible revenue, donor quantity and retention goals as well as interim benchmarks.
Issue data reports as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in business, sales development, marketing, public relations or other related field.
3 years progressively increasing development experience with writing, marketing and sales.
3 years experience preparing successful foundation and corporate foundation grants.
Experience and enthusiasm for securing corporate grants.
Experience with environmental education, conservation issues; knowledge of the foundation and corporate foundation prospect pool related to environmental education and conservation
Demonstrable skill in writing successful foundation and corporate foundation proposals and other grant-oriented materials that align funder priorities with organizational mission
Ability to manage and motivate diverse groups of people around a purpose
Comfort in simultaneously tracking multiple opportunities in collaborative team environment
Working knowledge of recent trends in grantmaking.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite 2007/2010; knowledge of standard research tools on the Internet; knowledge of relational databases, preferably Raiser’s Edge
