This position manages business relationships with Contractors supporting Power Delivery, Substation, Transmission and Vegetation Management construction and maintenance work. Initiates and administers standardized contracts and monitors contracts to ensure consistency and effectiveness. Manages key performance measures established for each contractor. Serves as primary point of contact and Company liaison with Contractors on administrative, operational and support needs to ensure their effectiveness while working on Company property. Seeks direction from the Company’s construction management personnel to coordinate the availability of Contractor resources when needed to start and/or transition between projects. Identifies and coordinates consistent policies and procedures on contractor related services within the Company. Recommends technology or processes to improve efficiency or effectiveness of Contractors and/or stakeholders utilizing those services. Facilitates safety meetings with Contractors and Company representatives to promote sharing of safety issues and topics relevant to ongoing safe work practices and expectations. Secures resources during a significant restoration event and acts as backup Crisis Manager when needed to coordinate company restoration efforts or mutual assistance activities. Oversees centralized invoice processing to ensure timely payment and auditing of contractor invoices. Works with Strategic Sourcing department to ensure compliance with contract requirements. Other work as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree, business and/or engineering degree(s) preferred, with related experience in managing contractor relationships to meet project needs throughout the company. Related experience must include demonstrated knowledge in principles of construction and maintenance of distribution, substation or transmission facilities and related business processes. Strong project management skills, excellent communication skills and the ability to work with multiple teams in a high performing culture is a key to success in this role. The appropriate combination of education and experience may be considered for this role.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:
Demonstrated ability and experience with contractor and relationship management. Must have general working knowledge of utility construction and maintenance practices for distribution, substation, transmission, and vegetation management work. Substantive experience with business processes within Power Delivery operations and general knowledge of Company’s safety manual. Understand concepts of proposal evaluation, negotiation and awarding contracts. Employs effective time and priority management skills to support and maintain internal and external relationships. Excellent skills in evaluating information in a rational manner and able to be perceptive, decisive and assertive with recommendations or proposals that may enhance Contractor performance. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to present information to others, of all levels, in a concise and thorough manner. Must be able to work effectively with others in a team environment and build relationships with contractors and work groups. Involves stakeholders as appropriate with decisions, seeks buy-in or support before taking action and can effectively evaluate alternatives, consequences and outcomes. Candidate must possess comprehensive skills in personal computer applications and knowledge of Windows, word processing, databases and spreadsheets. Must demonstrate exceptional skills in leadership, interpersonal relations, self-motivation, organization, dependability and team building.
Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:
Must possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
Office working conditions with occasional field visits. Must have a satisfactory work record including excellent attendance. Position will be called to provide support to the Company or other utilities outside of normal work hours and/or requiring overnight travel.
