This position is responsible for generating revenue to support AAFP Foundation and AAFP philanthropic programs through identification, cultivation, solicitation, and ongoing management of major donor relationships. This individual will:

  • research and qualify major and planned giving prospects;
  • build and maintain donor/prospective donor relationships, including an assigned portfolio of individuals;
  • develop proposals and presentations to meet major donor philanthropic needs as well as those of the Foundation;
  • make solicitations and complete the fundraising cycle by working with donor and donor advisors to secure completed formal agreements, e.g., charitable remainder trusts, charitable gifts annuities, bequests, endowments, major gifts or pledges, etc.
This position will develop, manage, and/or oversee a full range of fundraising initiatives as assigned, including planned giving campaigns, major gift campaigns, the securing of large annual gifts, participation in fundraising events and activities, database management, communications, and strategy and plan development. Approximately 35 days travel per year.

Required Skills

Required Experience

Bachelor’s degree, and specialized skills in development/fundraising plus a minimum of six years related experience. One-on-one donor development experience with a non-profit organization is required, and planned and major gifts experience with a national organization is strongly preferred. Fundraising Certification or work toward certification preferred. Requires ability to make presentations to small and medium-sized groups. High proficiency in Microsoft Powerpoint, Excel, Word; fundraising software (such as Raiser’s Edge) and planned giving software (such as Crescendo) strongly preferred. Ability to work independently, effectively organize work, work with frequent interruptions and adjust quickly to changing priorities. A professional attitude is essential. Prior experience with a volunteer/membership organization or healthcare related experience is preferred.
