Role Overview

This role provides global direction for all matters involving EHS systems within Novelis. Supports the implementation of EHS programs and practices within the regions. Helps the VP of Global EHS develop and implement EHS strategy, policy and procedures in line with regulations and corporate guidelines. Supports leadership in striving for sustainable world class EHS performance.

The job is performed on a global basis and, as such, the incumbent must be conversant in varying legal, political and cultural environments in which Novelis operates.

Internally, the position requires the candidate to maintain close working relationships with the senior management groups and IT functional leads. The candidate will also provide status reports and reviews to the Novelis, Inc and Novelis Corp EHS Steering Committees as needed. As is the nature of this type of work, the candidate deals with all levels of employees and, where applicable, their designated representatives within the entire Novelis organization.

The candidate interfaces with senior EHS and product safety leadership of other companies as a result of professional networking, due diligence efforts, benchmarking exercises, etc. The incumbent deals with senior service providers such as consulting firms, etc.

Role Responsibilities

Business Partnership
• Interface continuously with EHS professionals and IT support in identifying and implementing EHS IT systems.
• Provide timely and accurate analysis of EHS performance.
• Support the regions in implementation of the Novelis Safety System. This position requires significant global travel.
Leadership
• Implement the required systems in a challenging business environment.
• Provide system development and support globally to the EHS network.
• Coach regional EHS resources in the implementation of the Novelis Safety System.
• Effective member of the global EHS audit team.
• Develop and implement initiatives that target common accident causal factors and vulnerabilities
• Manage the approval and tracking of safety related or systems-related strategic initiatives
Compliance & Reporting
• Provide business assurance around compliance with statutory, corporate governance policies and business operations. Special focus on the EHS IT system.
• Identify EHS reporting trends and provide global solutions.
• Routinely visiting plants within all regions to monitor policies, practices and conditions
• Participation as an EHS auditor
• Participation at regional EHS networking meetings
• Monitor adoption of Novelis Shared Practices
Job Context & Major Challenges

Novelis is in the midst of development and implementation of a global approach to EHS, the Novelis Safety System. The jobholder’s primary accountability is leading the implementation of the required support systems for this work. As well, the jobholder will be tasked with supporting the implementation of the Novelis Safety System in the regions.

Major challenges:
• Replacement of current substandard EHS IT systems.
• Developing relationships and familiarity with corporate IT organization to facilitate replacement of systems
• EHS Support to the regions in a timely fashion.

The successful candidate will possess the following attributes:

•Develop Safety strategy and align with Corporate planning
•Drive implementation of Safety initiatives to facilitate improved organizational performance

•Maintain a high level staff of Safety professionals.
• Provide Safety training and educational opportunities to all levels of the organization.
• Lead, coach and motivate the Safety network to deliver the plans and priorities to agreed costs and service levels
• Oversee the professional development to build the capability & qualifications in the Safety team.
Compliance & Reporting:
• Provide business assurance around compliance with statutory, corporate governance policies and business operations
• Identify sector trends, measure and report on existing business performance in the areas of safety, environment, compliance, operations and engineering standards
• Lead the Safety audit processes, including closure of gaps.
