  • 3-5 years hospital experience required

  • Primary Purpose: To oversee the needs of the department, ensuring efficient workflow, staffing, accuracy and completeness of patient records, retrieving medical records and security of private health information according to state and federal guidelines.

    Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities: Formally responsible for making recommendations regarding policies associated with the job's purpose and essential responsibilities.

    Routine Decision Making: Determines validity of authorizations and subpoena’s.

    Formal Supervisory Responsibility: Formal supervisory responsibility for one Document Processing Clerk, one Health Information Clerk, one Release of Information Clerk, four Transcriptionists, one Document Imaging Clerk and two Health Information Coders.

    Required Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and pharmacology; coding guidelines regarding ICD9-CM; procedural guidelines regarding CPT4 coding; medical record laws regarding release of information and retention; HIPAA requirements; statistical computation.

    Required Skills and Ability: Good written and verbal communication skills; ability to meet strict deadlines; ability to understand complex federal and state laws and regulations regarding medical records.

    Education and Certification/ Registration Required for the Position: Junior college/two-year college training, RHIT.
