We are seeking a Manager, Infrastructure Storage & Backup Engineering & Operations.
Responsible for the enterprise Storage and Backup software engineering, architecture and operations within the enterprise. Works closely with other infrastructure teams to develop and execute our storage modernization program, including storage consolidation, archiving and implementing a tiered storage model. Responsible for leading a team of storage and backup systems administrators who manage and support our storage platforms. Operational responsibilities include 24x7x365 support, capacity planning, project delivery, monitoring, patching, system installation and problem resolution.
Job Responsibilities (listed in order of importance and/or time spent)
Develops and mentors staff through on-boarding, open communication, training and development opportunities and performance management processes; builds and maintains employee morale and motivation; ensures the team is appropriately staffed with required competencies; fosters a diverse and inclusive workplace.
Manages, develops and controls departmental expenditures against the expense budget.
Ensures development and execution of standard operational processes and automation, including standard archive/purging, software/hardware roadmaps, provisioning, service request, project delivery, solution & architecture design. Drives initiatives to reduce manual effort through automation and process improvement. Develops standard services through service definitions and associated SLAs. Responsible for enforcing enterprise standards and reference architecture. Responsible for meeting application SLAs and reducing major system issues by 10% FY12.
Develops key reference architecture, virtualization, archive, data retention and standard SAN/NAS solutions. Develops and executes a hardware refresh strategy. Ensures storage hardware rationalization through ongoing capacity management and planning. Develops product roadmaps and execute upgrade strategies. Responsible for managing key vendors and strategic partners. Includes understanding of vendor/product landscape, roadmaps as well as integration of vendor & corporate strategy.
Drives storage modernization and consolidation with a goal to reduce cost and increase efficiency. Responsible for developing storage consolidation strategy and reducing number of storage devices by 50% in 12 months.
Develops a highly accountable team that provides engineering, architecture and project delivery capabilities.
Assesses customer requests or business challenges, ensures provision of cost-effective solutions that meet requirements. Uses a consultative approach to assisting the application development teams in migrating from existing storage platforms to a tiered storage model. Provides continuous education, adherence and guidance. Works closely with both Enterprise Shared Service and customers to improve service delivery. Integrates and adopts current service mgmt. to enforce a consistent tiered approach to allocating storage, while exhibiting strong collaboration and integration with teams (ex. Command Center) and processes (ex. ITIL).
Develops project delivery capabilities that to meet both internal team demand, such as operating system upgrades and customer demand, such as new projects.
Develops and implements a 24x7 support/service model that includes a striated model of internal associates and offshore/outsourced resources. Strategy is focused on leveraging skills which are highly available globally. Develops the strategy and build an efficient global operating model.
Basic Qualifications & Interests (BQIs)
Bachelors Degree and at least 7 years of experience in IT storage and virtualization technologies OR a High School Diploma/GED and at least 10 years of in IT storage and virtualization technologies
At least 5 year of experience managing an enterprise storage and backup team.
At least 7 years of experience in deployment, development or support roles in NAS (Network Attached Storage) and Virtualization technologies
At least 7 years of experience with SAN (Storage Area Network), NFS ( Network File System) protocol, CIFS (Common Internet File System), Fiber Channel, and ISCSI (Internet Small Computer System Interface an Internet Protocol based storage networking standard.
At least 7 years of experience in Systems and/or Network Administration and in administering, troubleshooting and supporting Storage software such as EMC DMX/VMAX/Clariion.
At least 5 years of experience planning, developing, and managing departmental expense and capital budgets.
At least 5 years of experience directly managing people, including hiring, developing, motivating, and directing people as they work
At least 7 years of experience in indirect management of team members, including assisting in the development, training and assignment of work/projects to other team members.
Travel Requirements: (if required)
Willing to travel at least 15% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).
Preferred Qualifications & Interests (PQIs)
Experience establishing and executing storage strategy and influencing storage decisions at the executive level.
