The Manager of Internal Communications is responsible for the day-to-day responsibilities of SHRMs employee and member communications that support the goals and objectives of the Society. The position creates and delivers effective internal communication content, material, channels and events that help to build and reinforce a strong organizational culture, enable operational and strategic delivery, support staff retention and build morale.
The individual must collaborate and coordinate cross divisionally, including (but not exclusively) with Marketing, Internet Operations, Publications, Public Affairs, Meetings & Conferences, Membership and the Executive Office.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Director of Organizational Communications, the Manager of Internal Communications is responsible for multiple strategic communication efforts associated with SHRMs employees and members. The position must design and implement communication strategies that inform, provide context, and gain support for SHRM initiatives and ongoing activities.
The Internal Communications Manager would be responsible for the following:
Design and implement effective internal communication initiatives that support SHRM, its divisions/departments and its members. Draft talking points and/or short speeches Manage the Societys Intranet, SHRMnet. Draft weekly employee communications. Effectively use social media to communicate with employees. Draft regular communications to targeted member groups. Assist in preparing for and executing general sessions during SHRM conferences. Manage community relations and outreach efforts.

Demonstrated ability to develop internal communications strategy. Highly developed leadership, oral and written communication skills required. Demonstrated ability to influence at executive levels. Proficient public speaker. Demonstrated ability to use social media to communicate with employees is preferred. Strong organizational skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Experience working with field-based and virtual stakeholders. Excellent problem-resolution and analytical skills required. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to assimilate information quickly, analyze problems and implement solutions required. Intranet, internal publications/newsletters and other communications vehicles experience strongly preferred. REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION
Bachelors Degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Public Relations or related field. Minimum of five years professional experience with internal employee communications, journalism or equivalent level of experience.
