**JOB SUMMARY **Working as part of a close and collaborative team, the Manager, Investor Relations creates, plans, and executes Vertex investor relations programs to effectively deliver Vertex messages to financial audience in order to achieve Vertex strategic goals; in a timely manner, produce quality communication materials; provides strategic advice to Vertex management; and provide first line interaction with institutional investors and analyst as necessary. Investor Relations is a important channel of communications to Wall St., and the Manager, Investor Relations may be asked to take on a variety of responsibilities as needed. ** **KEY CAPABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES **- Develop investor relations strategies and program **- Understand Vertex business, culture and market **- Identify communications needs **- Define objectives and goals **- Prepare plan, execute, and ensure goals are met **- Contribute to IR reports and briefings to senior management and board of directors ** **Draft and edit communications materials including press releases, conference call scripts, Q&As, and backgrounders to achieve communication plan objectives ** -Formulate original ideas, create outline, compose, revise and edit **- Work effectively with others to finalize content and text **- Coordinate with graphics through publication phase **- Devise plans for distribution and supervise implementation **- Build relationships cross-functionally (legal, regulatory, communications, commercial, government affairs) that enable accurate, efficient and optimal creation and delivery of key messages ** **Respond to investor, analyst and financial media inquiries **- Ensure that investor inquiries are handled in a timely manner (24 hrs), consulting with VP on non-routine matters **- Learn company story to support being point of contact **- Track and analyze Wall St. analysts' financial estimates ** **Manage international investor outreach programs **- Conduct investor targeting projects to understand key trends within investor base and identify new potential owners **- Arrange meetings/interviews with target audience **- Plan multi-city international road shows **- Plan and schedule management's attendance at investor conferences **- Plan and organize investor events **- Plan and organize web-cast conference calls ** **Coach management on FAQs **- Cultivate effective relationships with financial community **- May delegate to another staff member and coach her/him in completing the project **- Will consult with peers/VP for problem-solving ** **Lead the execution of large projects in support of communication strategies, **including Slide Shows, Web Content, and other communications materials **- Manage the completion of project assignments from concept to introduction **- Contribute ideas in concept phase **- Develop project plan or planning book from conceptual outline, consulting with peers/VP **- Develop project calendar/timeline and review with peer/VP **- May delegate some data gathering, editing and drafting ** **Contributes to strategic and tactical planning **- Researches communications strategy and tactics as they relate to new situations and makes recommendations **- Participates in some aspects of financial strategy and execution of corporate finance and M&A **- May create and implement new communications initiatives **- Collaborates extensively with other Vertex functions ** **

**Minimum Qualifications: **- BS/BA and 6+ years on-the-job or related consulting experience ***Preferred Qualifications: **- Strong writing and analytical capability **- Strong financial background; MBA or advanced degree a plus **- Thorough knowledge of industry and ability to communicate key financial and scientific concepts **- Understanding of Wall Street **- Demonstrated ability to interact with senior management
