Job Summary

The Manager of North American Distribution is responsible for planning, managing and overseeing all aspects of North America Distribution function, including the relationships with key 3 rd party service providers.

Provides cost effective, high performance and best in class fulfillment operations that support on time, accurate movement of orders through a high growth distribution network. Develops local planning to support TOMS’s long-term supply chain and logistics strategy as well as to ensure effective performance to meet service, quality and cost expectations.

Essential Functions

Develop, execute and monitor the North American Distribution plan

Develop, implement and maintain the plan to ensure TOMS utilizes the best combination of cost, service and quality to meet overall North American Giving, International, B2B and B2C order fulfillment requirements

Provide best in class, high performance recommendations to manage and improve North American Distribution operations; work with internal and external stakeholders to gain approval and implement recommendations

In partnership with all internal and external stakeholders ensure that all required processes and procedures are in place to offer scalable, sustainable and flexible solutions

Manage, plan and oversee North American Distribution fulfillment operations

Develop, implement and manage the Distribution operating plan and budget. Coordinate development and implementation of operating plan with department leadership as well as giving and business stakeholders

Monitor department budget and report regularly on departmental performance against plans and budget, specifically on time performance and cost per unit

Provide direction and close oversight to providers of Distribution services, including managing, negotiating, and implementing all aspects of the Distribution function

Responsible for developing and maintaining the Routing Guide for all vendors, including vendor compliance to routing guide

Manage and Improve Distribution performance and costs

Working closely with key stakeholders, including Giving, International, B2B and B2C to measure and manage Distribution performance, including service, quality and costs.

Collaboratively establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Scorecards to ensure KPI targets are achieved. Expand stabilized process to international locations i.e. Europe and Asia.

Manage outsourced 3PL Distribution providers performance to ensure best-in-class costs, quality and service, including conducting contract negotiations with 3PL suppliers

Plan, develop and manage Distribution improvement plans, including improvements to service, quality, visibility and flexibility.

Collaboratively develop real time order tracking tools that facilitate improved visibility of orders at the 3PL locations

Oversee and lead the North American Distribution team and processes

Coach, mentor and train Distribution talent, both on an individual and team basis

Support personnel who are responsible for auditing and validating Distribution invoices

Develop and deploy Distribution Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that are integrated with internal and external stakeholders, including other departments, suppliers and customers

Establish and conduct daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly performance management of distribution operations

Build and maintain a positive, collaborative relationship between the distribution department and other areas of TOMS and TOMS’s external partners and customers

Essential Skills

Strong knowledge of 3PL Distribution service providers and ability to effectively manage their performance and cost structure

Working knowledge of inventory management skills such as cycle count processes

Experience and understanding in logistics sourcing best practices, functional and advisory

Knowledge of Global Supply Chain and Logistics processes and best practices

Advanced knowledge of Distribution Fulfillment Operations in International, B2B and B2C channels

Strong business, leadership, planning and organizing skills; including the ability to provide ideas to management, communicate value, gain approval and implement effectively

Strong ability to work independently and effectively manages employees in a globally disbursed function.

Able to mentor and grow talent, including delivering effective performance management messages to subordinates.

Excellent communication, analytical and project management skills required.

Ability to participate as a team-member as well as leader in a fast paced, team oriented environment.

Use sound judgment in decision making with results driven orientation.

Ability to facilitate group meetings.

Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Power Point, Word and Excel)

Working knowledge of SAP is an added advantage


Minimum of 10 years’ experience in distribution, with 5 years of management experience

5 years experience in the management of outsourced distribution fulfillment operations

B.A./B.S. in business or technical area required

LEAN and Six Sigma experience is an added benefit

Special Requirements

Expect approximately 20% travel
