This position sets and directs the no kill strategies of Best Friends Animal Society – Utah to increase adoptions and positive outcomes statewide for homeless pets. These strategies are developed in collaboration with animal shelters and rescues across the state.
Work directly with the ED to develop annual strategies that will directly support our mission to reduce the number of animals being killed in shelters by increasing adoptions and positive outcomes statewide.
Proactively develop relationships with shelters and Coalition partners across the state, communicating with them regularly.
Supervise the Adoptions & Outreach team members to ensure that program goals are being met and successful. Report on progress as directed by the ED.
Serve as a member of the Best Friends Animal Society - Utah management team, which includes participating in strategic planning, budgeting and determining goals for our Adoptions & Outreach efforts.
Assist in the planning of community events that increase adoptions & positive outcomes for shelters and Coalition partners.
As needed, attend city/county council and other community meetings to advocate on behalf of Best Friends’ positions.
Work with volunteer department and adoptions team to identify volunteer needs, and ensure volunteers are actively engaged to support our adoption strategies.
Work directly with marketing and communications to develop proactive strategies to promote our adoption strategies.
Provide ongoing support, professional development, and training opportunities for Adoptions & Outreach team.
Establish all safety, behavior/training and animal care protocols and procedures for adoptions programs and ensure adherence to these policies.
Other duties as assigned.
Experience / Requirements:
Minimum of 3 years management experience with an animal rescue or shelter, preferably with adoptions programs
Must be able to demonstrate prior success in program development
Ability to work collaboratively within a shelter environment required
Strong desire to work with animals, previous experience working with dogs and cats required
Experience developing collaborative relationships to achieve a goal
Experience in interacting with the general public and excellent customer service
Ability to professionally advocate Best Friends’ positions on issues thru public speaking, giving workshops, and presenting to city/county councils.
Ability to work with a team, manage deadlines, and be flexible under pressure
Basic computer skills required, including internet, Excel, Google docs, and database/data entry
Work with a positive outlook, upbeat, energetic and taking initiative
Ability to work some evenings and weekends and handle crisis
Must be able to routinely lift 40 to 50 pounds
Must be able to work out of doors in all weather conditions, with temperatures
ranging from below freezing to above 100 degrees
Must be able to perform strenuous physical activity on a daily basis, including, but not limited to: climbing up and down ladders, lifting and carrying, reaching, stooping, squatting, cleaning and bending
Must be able to work with strong, large animals, such as dogs with behavioral issues
