Develop and oversee implementation of procedures/guidelines and provide direction to ensure food safety and quality production, SQF, and HACCP are followed within established DFA requirements, regulatory agencies and third party audits. Direct activities of the QA Department. Provide technical assistance, recommendations, coaching, training to the staff for corrective actions and proactive measures to produce quality and safe products. Support the commitment and continual improvement of programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Establish and administer compliance with guidelines required with DFA, Safe Quality Food (SQF), regulatory agencies and 3rd party audits by developing and providing QA policies & procedures
- Understand and manage Quality, Food Safety, Food Security, Environmental, and Safety operations in a food manufacturing facility
- Ensure that plant and personnel are operating in compliance with all procedures and requirements
- Implement and manage DFA QA&C quality, food safety, HACCP, and environmental programs. Develop plant policies and procedures and train employees in compliance: implement and maintain Quality systems so plant products meet all specifications; manage “Hold and Release” programs for finished products and ingredients, coordinate COA review within specifications; coordinate and review DFA QA&C SOP and Document System for training and compliance
- Chair the HACCP Committee and ensure HACCP Review is done annually
- Develop, organize, and administer training for plant employees on GMP’s, HACCP, Food Safety, Food Defense, Environmental and Safety requirements
- Direct activities of the plant lab: supervise lab techs, schedule, train and provide feedback; set up, calibrate, and maintain a systematic method of auditing analytical results; conduct physical and organoleptic evaluations of products and ingredients; direct the testing and analysis of routine and special products, trials, etc. and provide reports to all parties; coordinate Environmental Pathogen Monitoring Program
- Coordinate/conduct facility audits, accompany investigators, and ensure corrective actions and follow-up reports are tracked and completed
- Review lab and production documents daily, assess the quality of products, determine that products meet DFA and/or customer specifications, and approve for release to customers
- Convey company, facility, and department goals to employees. Track and report on plant quality KPIs
- Attend seminars to develop skills needed to improve job performance
- Prepare and/or coordinate environmental consulting services to prepare reports/permit applications and submit to regulatory agencies. Develop systems and track data for permits
- Act as the site “super user” of environmental software
- Site contact for all environmental DFA and regulatory visits, submit reports regarding activities, attend DFA Environmental Conferences and calls, and roll out new policies and requirements
- Report environmental issues to DFA and regulatory agencies
- Perform environmental preconstruction review of equipment, renovations and buildings to ensure maintaining compliance, and meets environmental permit requirements
- Other tasks as assigned

Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Food/Dairy Science, Biology, Chemistry, or similar
- 2+ years exp in a Food Plant Environment (Food-Production Laboratory, QA, QC, or Compliance)
- 3+ years management exp., in a food plant environment, preferred
- Use P&L results and KPI’s to improve plant performance
- Problem solve in team environment
- Excellent team building skills
- Written and oral communication skills, interact well with others
- Analyze data and generate effective reports
- Understand food industry regulations and their impact on DFA
- Attention to detail and effective follow-through
- Experienced in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
- Willing and abile to learn new skills as this position develops
