Pivotal is looking for a highly motivated, hands-on technical manager to lead a team of talented, hard core programmers on our GemFire team. We work on cutting edge data management products that transform the way businesses operate. GemFire is a horizontally partitioned memory oriented data management platform that is used in high throughput, low latency, high scale environments. We work with many technologies including: distributed systems, continuous querying/stream processing; materialized views; multi-query optimization; distributed querying; scalable distributed data structures; concurrent data structures; main-memory databases; fault-tolerance paradigms; SQL; p2p network topologies, HDFS, Hadoop and Big Data.

Responsibilities:
Responsible for product delivery for GemFire and SQLFire releases

Work closely with product management, release management and support teams to ensure that product delivery commitments and customer commitments are met on a timely basis

Mentor and coach a team of software engineers comprising both junior and senior engineers

Participate in specification, design, implementation, evangelism and support of the product, as well as improve existing features and product performance.

Responsible for ranking and rating the team as well as helping with their career development

Inspire the team to compete and succeed in a rapidly changing market place

Work with technical writers and trainers.

Required Skills:
BS/MS Computer Science or equivalent, with coursework or experience in distributed systems.

At least 3 years as a project manager or project technical lead with people responsibilities

Excellent Java knowledge( past experience programming in Java) and object oriented programming skills are a pre-requisite for this position.

Understanding of distributed computing and large scale networks

Experience with NoSQL products (especially key value stores) highly desirable

Experience in at least one startup type environment managing teams

Keen understanding of state-of-the-art techniques and trends in data management and testing of distributed systems.

Team player, with the willingness to work on distributed teams (VMware has teams all over the globe)

Outstanding attitude and energy.

Excellent communication skills.
