The Manager, Risk Data Services will lead the development of Platts Risk Data Services (RDS)
business activities in the
Americas. The role requires a background in commodity trading and extensive knowledge of financial risk management techniques, best practices and strategies.
RDS’ primary business activity is the provision of forward price curves for the commodity markets. Global energy and commodity trading companies, hedge funds, and banks use these forward curves to value and mange exposure to commodity prices. RDS products cover a spectrum of forward curves derived from Editorial assessments of markets as well as the application of sophisticated financial engineering and quantitative techniques.
RDS customers span the globe and depend on our high quality curves for the management and measurement of commodity price risk and their daily calculation of profit and loss and exposure to the market.
The manager will be responsible for driving growth in the
and will direct new product launches and lead all sales and marketing activities for the team.
The manager will have deep knowledge of the structure and functioning of the North America natural gas and power markets; and strong experience in and understanding of the wholesale crude oil and refined products markets in the Americas. This individual will have extensive experience in the use of financial and derivative products as a tool for managing risk and dealing with volatile commodity prices.
In addition, this individual will manage the Platts Valuation Hub, an innovative and entrepreneurial joint venture with a third party that is incorporated into RDS operations. They will represent Valuation Hub in Platts and co-ordinate all activities and operations with the other Platts departments in support of Platts Valuation Hub, particularly Sales and Marketing.
They will be tasked with leveraging our exclusive partnership with ICE, one of the most successful commodity exchange and clearing houses, and our key distributors such as Thomson Reuters, Bloomberg, GlobalView and MorningStar to develop new markets and revenue sources in the Americas.
7+ years experience in trading/risk management capacity in global commodity trading organization. I
n-depth knowledge of North America natural gas and power markets, and strong experience and understanding of, the wholesale crude oil and refined products markets in the Americas. Extensive knowledge and experience of risk management in commodity trading, including risk management techniques used by clients, and best practices and strategies.
3+ years experience in the use of financial and derivative products to value exposure and manage against the risk of volatile commodity prices.
Team player with the ability to work in and flourish in a merit-based, entrepreneurial, professional culture.
Strong customer mindset with demonstrated ability to engage directly and honestly with customers on all issues and deliver positive experience to customers at all times.
Strong commercial mindset. Ability to identify and develop (working with colleagues) new opportunities to grow RDS sales and financial performance in Americas.
Structured and logical thinker – able to prepare and maintain high quality analysis and documentation in support of corporate processes and projects.
Excellent communication and presentation skills. Able to educate customers and sales teams on risk management techniques and strategies and articulate Platts Forward Curve, M2M curve and Valuation Hub value propositions to customers. Recognized as “subject matter expert” and dynamic contributor in the development of commodity risk management solutions.
College degree required.. Advanced degree or additional professional qualification/certification, including MBA highly preferred
Fluent English speaker/writer to business standard. Knowledge of Spanish and/or
language an advantage.
