There are approximately 1 million people in the United States living with, or in remission from, blood cancer, which is the most common cancer diagnosis in children. The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the development of fundraising plans for School & Youth programs including recruitment, budgets, timelines and logistics
  • Supervise Special Events Assistant (part of the year) and assist with the hiring, training, and supervision of up to five part-time Tele-recruiters
  • Actively participate in fall school recruitment (e.g. selected priority hot list and lapsed schools)
  • Work with Volunteer Department to secure an Honored Hero for each school year
  • Develop and implement ideas to incorporate the mission into School & Youth Programs
  • Cultivate and retain working partnerships with teachers and school administrators through S&Y campaign correspondence
  • Act as the point person for on line fundraising; create web page, send email templates, pointers and weekly updates to participating schools; conduct follow-up phone calls to ensure schools are utilizing the program effectively (October through April)
  • Assist with the ongoing recommitment efforts (e.g. confirmation calls/emails during the first week of a school’s campaign)
  • Assist with the ongoing confirmation process (e.g. confirmation calls/emails during the last week of a school’s campaign)
  • Develop and execute cohesive one-day event program to implement in the Spring Semester
  • Work with Senior Manager, School & Youth to secure and conduct 200 school visits within Cook, Lake, Will, DuPage and Kane counties (e.g. educational assemblies, student leadership meetings, one-on-on strategy meetings)
  • Encourage and model standard for cross-promotion amongst campaigns
  • Assist with various chapter events (e.g. Light The Night, PamJam, Cancer Survivorship Conference)
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the LLS mission and the capability to educate others on our goals
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager, School & Youth Mandatory Job Qualifications
Position Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience required
  • 1-3 of fundraising, sales and/or marketing experience
  • Supervisory experience is preferred
  • Strong word processing and database management skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to deliver effective presentations to K-12th grade students and school educators
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Capable of balancing multiple priorities effectively
  • High degree of organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to develop and leverage new and existing relationships
  • Ability to think creatively
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to routinely lift 20lbs or more (bringing materials to school assemblies)
  • Must be willing to work some nights and weekends
  • Local in-state travel is required; must be willing to attend and facilitate school visits throughout the year.
