DUTIES:
• Manages staff involved in the design, implementation and evolution of all components of the digital publishing platform which supports all CU’s online web products.
• Directs the activities of software engineers in the areas of task scheduling, technical design, implementation and software development best practices.
• Uses a variety of open source technologies to provide application functionality to online customers including social media and personalization services
• Helps to streamline software development by contributing to implementation of a continual integration process, automating manual processes, and stamp out defects.
• Collaborates with business leaders and other IT groups to prioritize projects and maximize the effectiveness of web technologies in supporting business strategy.
• Manages requests from the businesses working with IT project managers to ensure project objectives are met according to schedule.
• Develops standards for project initiation, design, development and support.
• Maintains knowledge of open source and emerging internet technology trends to evaluate business and technical opportunities in the adoption of new technologies.
• May work on multiple, complex projects in a lead or subject matter expert role.
• Responsible for hiring, development and evaluation of applications development staff; coaches and mentors more junior staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Include:

Master’s degree preferred in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field
7 – 10 years of experience including managing teams responsible for software development in e-commerce enabled environment using n-tier software platforms.
In-depth knowledge of state of the art web and open source technologies, content management systems, object-oriented languages and design patterns, and use of advanced software engineering methodologies in designing, coding, testing and debugging programs. Strong experience in Java, SQL, Spring framework, Velocity and shell scripting; Python, Resin, Tomcat, WebLogic, or similar experience a plus.
Experience managing engineering projects that involve designing, developing, and maintaining large-scale, high visibility, high volume, high-availability applications and web platforms.
Proven track record in managing and developing high quality applications on schedule in an agile, iterative, fast-paced development environment.
Strong management, interpersonal, presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal and able to lead, partner and work efficiently in a collaborative setting.
