NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations; our water enforcement cases played a major role shaping current water policy throughout the country. Today, our staff of more than 430 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy and communications experts, and others, work out of offices in New York, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Livingston, Montana and Beijing.
Position Summary :
The individual in this role will work with NRDC campaign, program & communications staff to better inform and design the strategies we adopt for influencing various target audiences (including the public and policy-makers) by media selection.
Collaborate with various program directors (as assigned) and the communications team to:
Develop insights that shape strategy and drive key decisions.
Plan and implement public engagement campaigns focused on leveraging participation from consumers, business leaders and myriad specific targeted audiences to move NRDC’s policy objectives forward.
Develop and manage research (qualitative & quantitative) projects geared at gleaning information to better mobilize the public, grass tops leaders, and the media in support of NRDC priorities.
Provide strategic planning and project management to priority campaigns as directed
Manage and create advertising & messaging materials such as email alerts, scripts, blog posts, and other digital content as needed.
Expertly manage consultants, vendors and multi-level budgets
Support research needs across the organization while simultaneously focusing on information sharing/best practices/ training models.
Maintain research calendar and ensure the complete and on-time fulfillment of all deliverables.
Bring the voice of the member and potential member into the organization, and stimulate a somewhat defined culture that is anchored in environmental activism but should be expanded to include new voices.
Coordinate with coalition partners and other allies outside the organization on campaigns, developing new partnerships and leading coalition campaign research/advertising efforts when needed.
Maintain financial records for campaigns and historical campaign details.
Coordinate ad buys, manage vendors, cultivate industry relationships
B.A. /B.S. degree in Communications, Marketing, Advertising, Political Science, or a closely related field.
5-7 years of experience as an advertising manager, marketing communications manager or in a comparable position, including substantial experience planning and managing national level advertising
Understands both qualitative and quantitative market research methods; able to synthesize and integrate quantitative findings with qualitative projects; able to identify which research method is most well-suited to a given campaign objective.
Well-versed in various forms of qualitative research and is a highly skilled interviewer, able to conduct focus groups, in-depth interviews, ethnographic interviews, and online/virtual interviews.
Expert knowledge of public opinion research/paid advertising/earned-media/social-media and marketing Highly developed writing, communication and presentation skills (including public speaking)
Ability to facilitate team discussions and build consensus.
Proficiency in overall messaging strategy with demonstrated ability to consult with various program staff to ensure that research projects are aligned with NRDC’s needs and goals; comfortable pushing back and knowing when research is and not appropriate given the overall strategic context.
Ability to juggle multiple complex projects simultaneously and effectively.
Familiarity with legislative and administrative processes at the federal and state levels.
