PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION:
The Manager, Technical Applications directs, manages, plans and administers the operational and administrative activities of a Application Technology section. Manages a technical staff responsible for all phases of the systems implementation and operational support processes and services supporting key business applications.

  • Negotiate, secures, oversee & ensure that resources are available to meet the daily operational demands of the area.
  • Oversee and control department budgets, project capital/RCE expenditures & ROI: develop, monitor and meet expense and recovery plans; continually look for opportunities for cost reductions and cost avoidance.
  • Prepare budgets for cost pools and manage to them.
  • Responsible for all aspects of people leadership; setting expectations, coaching, counseling, developing, evaluating, feedback, hiring, discipline and separations. Determine necessary mix of skill set.
  • Confronts and deals with employees issues in a constructive and timely manner.
  • Establish and maintain high-quality relationships with all levels across the company and with external partners.

  • Makes strategic decisions that impact department or division/site. May have final decision authority for project level budget and activities.
  • Manages 1 -2 leads, which includes 5 - 10 employees/contractors, direct/indirect at varying levels of Application Technology individual contributors.
  • Direct Budget Resp: $500M - $4MM.
  • Business Impact: 100 - 1000 users, $250M - $3MM in business financial impact.
  • Has defined authority and responsibility for a significant area of work, including technical, financial and quality aspects. Establishes organizational objectives and delegates assignments. Accountable for actions and decisions taken by self and subordinates
  • Accountable for the alignment of the proposed technical solution(s) to the Enterprise Architecture Standards upon which the business justification and prioritization decisions are made. Also accountable for communicating the technology needs and drivers to business analysts groups to ensure the development and implementation phases can fulfill the business need.
  • Experienced in vendor management, driving roadmap and changes as well as strong technical understanding of system architecture and infrastructure components to help drive future solution direction and identify areas to reduce existing system costs.
Qualifications

Skills/Experience Requirements

Basic Qualifications:
10+ years of overall experience including 1-2 years supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Working knowledge of AbbVie Systems, infrastructure, operating systems, application support vs application development and virtual technology.

Knowledge of applicable regulations and standards affecting Pharmaceutical Products (e.g. CFR 210/211, cGMP) specifically.

Experience in managing the system portfolio for multiple systems in a given business function (preferably Quality).

Experience with Quality business systems and processes, such as document management, supplier management, CAPA management, label management, manufacturing quality processes, laboratory systems, etc.

Technical knowledge and management experience with the following solutions/vendors: Sparta Systems (TrackWise), EMC (Documentum), ThermoLIMs, Chromotography solutions (Atlas, Empower), Kodak (Design to Launch), etc.

Education Requirements

Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience, preferably in software engineering, business, information systems, or a discipline closely related to the client area served.

Significant Work Activities and Conditions

Continuous sitting for prolonged periods ( more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hour day)
