Role and Scope of Position:
This position is responsible for the development and effective implementation for all skills training programs for the Electric business within Northeast Utilities (NU). This position providesoverall coordination, scheduling, administration and tracking of all Transmission & Distribution (T&D) training. Manages skills training programs for the physical work-force.
Manages the analysis and determination of training needs such as initial and refresher, technical, physical skills, clerical, and T&D construction work methods, T&D Construction Management Systems, emergency preparedness and federal mandated safety programs.
Ensures that training programs are designed and evaluated based on a Systematic Approach to Training Model (SAT).
Manages, plans and develops the analysis and determination of indoor and outdoor physical plant and apparatus needs required for all training.
Manages, develops and administers technical, clerical and physical skills training programs established under Company-Union bargaining unit agreements.
Researches, recommends and implements best practices for the technical training programs and processes.
Directs distribution and transmission classroom training administration activities, including training and compliance recordkeeping and reporting.
Oversees the management and development of technical training staff. Assesses the need for, and oversees implementation of, programs to ensure employees possess technical and behavioral skills required to support operating plans. Manages, selects, coaches and develops technical training staff.
Manages the prioritization of emergent work, and the planning and execution of the most effective and efficient training strategies and approaches that ensure the continuous learning of the organization.
Technical Knowledge/Skill: Requires a working knowledge of all transmission and distribution network equipment and vehicles, work practices and procedures, construction and material standards, as well as safety, regulatory and design codes. Also requires a demonstrated knowledge in training and development concepts, theories, practices and principals using a Systematic Approach to Training.
Education: Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, related discipline or equivalent experience. Advanced degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum of ten (10) years of energy delivery and electric utility operations experience preferred as well as experience in managing employee training activities. Demonstrated experience in working and communicating across functional boundaries, interacting with a union workforce and process improvement.
