Pittsburgh Glass Works (PGW), the #1 manufacturer and distributor of automotive glass in North America has an immediate opening for a Manager of Transportation. This position will be located at our headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA. We offer an exciting and fast paced working environment, challenging responsibility.
The Manager of Transportation is responsible for management of all activities associated with domestic and international transportation and logistics. This includes all modes of transportation: TL, LTL, Rail, Intermodal and International Transportation: Ocean and Air Freight. Responsible for all contract negotiations within the transportation network including TMS solutions, 3PL supplier agreements, TSA, BSA, International GSA/ TEU agreements IM agreements and LTL and express carrier contracts . This position works closely with supply chain personnel, purchasing, tax, finance and ARG distribution services. 50MM Freight spend.
Additionally, the inclumbent is responsible for sourcing offsite Warehousing and Warehouse services. The incumbent also is responsible for the sourcing of Packaging Materials. In performing these duties, the Manager, Transpiration Services identifies alternatives, competitively bids and / or negotiates contracts and coordinates with other PGW key associates (Operations, Engineering, Safety among others) to define requirements and ensure adherence to those requirements.
The Manager of Transportation's primary responsibilities include:
Manage External Logistics Service Providers: Manages all contractual logistics relationships between PGW and transportation suppliers. Manages the routings of all PGW shipments. Provides accurate logistical data related to freight spend and cost analyses. Indentifies and implements opportunities for long-term cost savings.
Develop and Implement Best Practices: Optimizes sourcing strategy. Negotiates supplier pricing, identifies cost saving opportunities. Implements supplier metrics and reports on variations from supplier metrics. Improves processes in carrier maintenance, routing guide sourcing, and claims management. Develops best practices across all PGW shipping locations to ensure that all necessary paperwork is accurate, complete and consistent for all shipping facilities.
Develop and Track Performance Metrics: Reports on cost trends, revenue, profitability, on-time delivery and claims reporting. Develops and maintains routing guides and freight database. Develops costs structure and provides goals for all facets of freight spend. Makes recommendations and communicates alternative business processes to extend savings opportunities. Establishes target goals and analyzes metrics on a regular basis. Initiates corrective action plans to address deviations in KPI’s. Drives results for all PGW Business.
Develop Freight Budget: Develops an annual budget for logistics spend across all business units for input into the Supply Chain budget. Monitors accuracy and identifies and reports deviations to Vice President of Global Supply Chain.
Provides Leadership to Transportation Team and Staff Development: Works closely with the transportation team in overall transportation strategy and daily activities. Communicates expectations and provides direction on managing and securing the flow of goods from PGW to customer. Develops a responsive transportation team. Utilizes a formal process to motivate staff performance & development to meet business deliverables; stays abreast of changing regulations, technologies and industry procedures via formal and informal training, activities and personal study.
A Bachelor’s degree in logistics or equivalent experience and 10 years of transportation/logistics experience. Automotive business experience is a plus. An MBA with emphasis on Logistics or Supply Chain is desirable. Successful incumbent must have excellent leadership and interpersonal/communications skills and have demonstrated proven innovative talent for meeting cross functional goals and a solid track record of significant accomplishments.
