The Manager, Web Collaboration Infrastructure will be responsible for leading and managing the development, deployment, and ongoing operations of team systems and services, specific to the Web and Collaboration Systems.

These systems consist of the following: Web server software and tools, Automated software and configuration deployment, Middleware supporting web-based applications (e.g. Apache Tomcat), Video streaming technologies, LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) infrastructure, Application integration with directory management systems (e.g. LDAP), Various web-based applications, University web security standards, Load-balanced applications with automated disaster recovery capabilities, Content management systems (e.g. Drupal), Web statistics platforms, Web search technologies, and Project management tools.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversees and participates in complex software development and application administration services, and performs related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Tailors software engineering approaches to manage collaborative software development and project execution in a group environment.
  • Develops and documents procedures for installation, use, maintenance, troubleshooting, and management of team services and systems.
  • Develops, oversees, and meets budget goals.
  • Demonstrates application knowledge and understands applications outside of specific responsibility to identify interdependencies and minimize the impact of system changes.
  • Leads the development of service goals related to: redundancy, security, capacity management, DR planning and cost containment.
  • Builds relationships with other IT departments and business units and mitigates conflict to facilitate inter-department communication and productivity in support of business objectives. Acts as a catalyst for change to improve processes that benefit the IT organization and the University.
  • Manages a team of five
  • Participates in the team "on-call" rotations, occasionally requiring after-hours and weekend work.
  • Leads major incident response efforts, occasionally requiring after-hours and weekend work.
Minimum Qualifications for Grade
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Technology, or related field.
  • 7+ years related work experience required.
  • 3+ years of management experience.
Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

  • Proven experience in project management methodologies and activities including estimating costs, project scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Demonstrated ability to write effective computer programs using Perl, PHP, UNIX shell scripting, C/C++, C#, Java, and/or Python. For any of the above, the ability to integrate with databases and CGI.
  • Experience developing web applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to install, administer, and maintain secure UNIX, Linux, and Windows applications, including Apache httpd and Apache Tomcat.
Knowledge of relational Databases: mysql, postgresql, Oracle or SQLServer.
Working knowledge of RPMs, LDAP, Cfengine, or at least the concepts of software and configuration management.
Security: Basic programming principles of systems and network security. Understanding of host-based firewalls ACLs, htaccess files, and other approaches to application security.
  • Experience with full systems development lifecycle.
  • Broad knowledge of information technologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with end users, colleagues, and management.
  • Proven ability to work within a fast paced deadline driven environment.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Ruby on Rails or other framework experience
  • JavaScript development experience
  • Experience with WordPress and Confluence
  • Experience with XML and XSLT
Experience with Internet2 Grouper
  • Knowledge of ITIL
  • Experience preparing cost accounting reports
  • Familiarity with Drupal administration
  • Experience with Google Apps Engine
  • Practical experience with at least one software engineering methodology in a collaborative development environment.
