Job Summary:
The Manager of Global Product Safety Compliance is responsible for day to day operations of TRU’s global product safety and compliance investigation processes. In addition, this position is responsible to coordinate and oversee day to day global safety and compliance processes, TRU’s global regulatory reporting process and TRU’s global stop sale and recall process to ensure one consistent process for TRU. In conjunction with managing day to day operations of the investigation process, reporting procedure and stop sale processes, this position is responsible to manage global guest data including incident development of global strategies to trend, track, analyze and report potentially hazardous products to determine appropriate corrective action and ensure that the best products in terms of safety and compliance are sold at all TRU/BRU/FAO locations.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

Lead Global Safety and Compliance partners by coordinating global objectives to manage Product Safety incidents, investigation processes, reporting requirements and stop sale process;

Coordinate expansion of process to other countries (including but not limited to wholly owned markets);

Lead collaborative efforts with global cross functional partners;

Lead escalation and communication of potential safety issues and/or recalls and stop sales and appropriate corrective action plans.

Product Safety Investigations/Regulatory Compliance

Lead and manage day to day operations of global product safety investigation process;

Develop and coordinate systemic solution to trend, track, analyze and report on trends;

Lead communication and action plans with regulatory agencies;

Develop and present action plans to leadership regarding corrective actions for potential product safety matters.

Product Investigations

Regularly review sources of guest information for the US and CA to ensure that all potential safety issues are reviewed and investigated;

Establish communication workflow to gather any and all product safety guest issues;

Conduct thorough investigation of all potential safety issues;

Provide proposals to leadership on action plan of potential issues;

Trend, track, analyze and report information appropriately;

Identify potential Consumer Product Safety Commission issues and issues that require immediate attention;

Monitor trends and analyze data appropriately;

Create guest incident reporting tool for discussions with leadership;

Develop and maintain systems needed for information gathering and documentation for future reference;

Develop and memorialize Global Standard Operating Procedures of the product safety investigation process;

Develop, memorialize and oversee governmental reporting processes globally; Escalates potential CPSC and other governmental reportable incidents to leadership to fulfill reporting obligations to respective governmental authorities.

Government Authority Product Safety Reporting Requirements

Understand reporting requirements for the following regulatory bodies: Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC); Federal Food and Drug Agency (FDA); National Highway and Transportation Safety Board (NHTSA); Health Canada (HC); Transport Canada (TC); EU Authorities, Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and other regulatory authorities;

Develop and implement and oversee global product safety mandatory reporting procedure;

Regularly review Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), National Highway Traffic Safety (NHTSA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Health Canada, Transport Canada websites.

Industry Intelligence

Must know and understand all global regulatory requirements and changes;

Understand trends within retail industry;

Communicate to leadership anticipated regulatory reporting requirement changes and develops action plans to meet potential new requirements.


Bachelor’s degree required;

certificate/degree paralegal studies,

quality assurance/engineering, retail/business or a related field preferred

5+ Retail, Legal/Paralegal experience, Quality Assurance, or other equivalent experience
