Information Services at Vidant Health
Vidant Health offers comprehensive Information Technology (IT) services and infrastructure to support and enable all aspects of organizational operations. Our IT division consists of a state-of-the-art data center located in Greenville, NC. The data center services all information technology needs of Vidant Health facilities.
Vidant Health has been recognized as one of the 100 Most Wired healthcare organizations by Hospitals and Health Networks magazine. All Vidant Health owned or leased hospitals are on a common IT platform, including our electronic health record (EHR) that uses Epic's suite of applications. Vidant Health has achieved Meaningful Use Stage 1 recognition and is also approaching Stage 7 for HIMSS Analytics’ Electronic Medical Records Adoption Model (EMRAM) recognition.
Manage the selection, analysis, design, development, testing, implementation and support of vendor supplied and inhouse custom developed applications and systems that make up the Hospital Information System for all Vidant Health hospitals and affiliates.
Supervise the activities of staff including systems analysts and programmers, team leaders and individual project managers on a daily basis to monitor attainment of Vidant Health goals.
Develop and monitor Vidant Health standards for the purchase and utilization of information technology. Develop and maintain a standardized application model for all Vidant Health facilities.
Manage the maintenance and enhancements to existing custom developed and vendor provided application software including identifying, communicating, tracking and resolving problems.
Develop short term and long range plans for meeting enterprise level IS goals and objectives. Evaluate and leverage existing and available tools and applications to reduce costs, improve workflows and provide solutions to the Vidant Health enterprise.
Develop and assume accountability for capital and operational budgets for IS cost centers. _______________________________________________________________________________________
Manage the evaluation, selection, analysis, design, development, testing, implementation and support of vendor supplied and in-house custom developed applications or systems (including voice, data or video) that make up the Hospital Information System.
Coordinate the selection of hospital information technology by developing Requests For Information, Requests For Proposals and Bid Specifications. Submit completed documents to prospective vendors with assistance from Material Services and the Legal Department. Participate in contract negotiations with preferred vendor including software pricing, system design, and adherence to IS standards, required vendor support and installation targets. Identify and develop installation work plans, capital and support budgets, project teams and installation deliverables. Track project expenditures to ensure that actual expenses do not exceed budgeted amounts (Project budgets often exceed $1 million and run several years). Assist in the design of the new systems including interfacing/integrating the proposed system to other systems. Assign tasks to project team members and monitor their activities against project work plan. Facilitate resolution of issues between departments and software vendors.
Direct project team steering committees to ensure timely installations and adequate communication among project team members. Prepare periodic reports for Executive Staff on progress of projects and communicate project statuses to Department Managers when required. Plan for actual live date of project and insure appropriate parties are notified. All aspects of work may involve multiple hospitals or affiliates' participation in the various steps. Almost all applications and services are deployed to all Vidant Health and require more complex coordination, communication and consensus building. Insure development of business continuity/contingency plan for all systems to be able to restore the HIS in the event of a disaster.
Minimum Requirements
BA/BS required
5 - 6 years related work experience required.
Preferred Experience
Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, presentation and written communication skills. Self Starter, proactive, demonstrated self and team motivator. Needs to influence and negotiate both internally and externally. Interacts with senior level leaders (i.e. VP+ in Business Relationship Managers (BRM) and other pyramids).
Understands systems process analysis, design and simulation. Possesses knowledge and experience leveraging both Information Services solutions and business process improvements.
Can effectively complete projects leveraging the multiple location application development model. Must understand technical problems and solutions in relation to the current, as well as the future business environment.
Possesses an understanding of technological trends and uses this knowledge to bring solutions to business units supported to enhance the enterprises competitive edge
