This position develops and executes comprehensive public relations and media outreach strategies that support the mission, objectives and business goals of the organization. Develops and implements comprehensive PR plans for key Lowe’s markets, initiatives and products. Often leads cross-functional teams to effectively execute PR plans.
The PR manager is responsible for positioning the company positively from both corporate and social responsibility perspectives, and provides risk/reward scenarios when evaluating important issues for media (traditional, electronic and social), public interest groups and internal audiences. Serves as a company spokesperson and will handle national business news media.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
This position interacts with and provides guidance to multiple corporate departments, store/field management both in formal training programs and on an ad hoc basis (including but not limited to employee relations, legal, real estate, government affairs and customer care) to identify and manage issues.
This position also coaches and mentors team members. Must demonstrate strong leadership qualities and successfully complete multiple projects at one time (and under deadline). Must also work collaboratively with departments throughout the enterprise.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Develop external communication plans and strategies, including support for general corporate initiatives.
2.Serve as corporate spokesperson on broad range of issues, including corporate financial, company growth, marketing/branding and community
3.Work with various departments enterprise-wide to identify issues that may affect the company’s reputation.
4.Work with internal departments to formulate responses to reporter inquires and senior management, as needed to address sensitive issues.
5.Develop story ideas, write corporate news releases, proactively pitch news stories to key media and arrange interviews in the best interest of the company.
6.Monitor news coverage in tradition, electronic and social media
7.Develop and maintain relationships with key reporters important to Lowe’s.
8.Monitor risk situations/potential issues and develop appropriate strategy and tactics to address, ensuring risk to the company is minimized.
9.Develop and implement media training for various levels of Lowe’s employees; conduct seminars as part of existing Lowe’s training programs and provide guidance to store and field management.
10.Position will identify and manage key internal and external relationships.
•5+ years of PR experience
•Strong leadership qualities
•Must be able to work collaboratively with departments throughout the enterprise
•Must have crisis communications experience
•Previous corporate and/or retail experience preferred.
•Effective oral and written communication skills.
•Professional poise/confidence to interface with senior management, as needed.
•Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet constant deadlines.
•Excellent time management/organizational skills.
