HORNE LLP, one of the largest accounting and consulting firms in the Southeast is seeking a Manager for our Specialty Accounting area. This position will be located in Galveston, Texas.
A Manager is an experienced professional who demonstrates high competence in an area of expertise and shows potential in acquiring management and practice promotion skills. The Manager functions under direction of a Senior Manager. The Manager is encouraged to develop his/her strengths and demonstrate potential Senior Manager qualities. The Manager may be a career position.
Required Experience and Education
Normally five (5) to seven (7) years experience in project management, demonstrating a progression in complexity, scope, and number of projects managed.
Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and people.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business or accounting, or degree appropriate to practice area.
Participates in career development program to improve managerial, communication and interpersonal skills.
Assumes responsibilities for project management.
Maintains contact with client throughout the year; possesses a thorough knowledge of the client and all facets of client’s business.
Maintains familiarity with qualifications of all staff members; reviews staff assignments for appropriateness. Monitors time budgets.
Supervises staff and provides on-the-job training; reviews workpapers and reports prepared by staff.
Anticipates problem areas and questions that will arise during the course of a project.
Keeps Partner informed of all-important developments; analyzes problems and recommends solutions.
Ensures that financial statements, tax returns, and letters of recommendations are prepared in accordance with professional and Firm standards.
Communicates progress of projects, problems, and resolutions to client.
Works to develop responsible, trained staff by assisting in performance evaluations.
Prepares invoices to clients, communicates details of fees to clients, and assists in collection of overdue accounts.
Possesses a complete knowledge of the Firm’s philosophy and its opinions on financial matters.
Maintains knowledge of general economic and political trends of possible tax or other legislation that could affect the business climate.
Assists in recruiting entry-level and experienced staff and attends Beta Alpha Psi events and functions at colleges and universities sponsored by the Firm by conducting interviews and performing such other recruiting duties as needed.
Attends to client service and adding value to clients’ businesses is an integral part of the job requirements and demonstrates the ability to identify cross-selling opportunities and follow through with those opportunities or refer them to other professionals if necessary.
Takes responsibility for accuracy of data entry, accumulation, and maintenance in all aspects of what we do as an accounting and consulting Firm.
Learns through Mentor or other Partners proper delegation and management of workload and demonstrates ability to properly delegate and manage workload.
Works to develop responsible, trained staff by assisting in recruiting, developing training aids, and acting as an instructor in professional development programs.
Understands the Firm’s business on a day to day basis: billings and collections, proper utilization of staff, Firm policies and procedures, etc.
Participates in Firm’s practice development efforts.
Prepares other reports and projects as requested from time to time by the Partners.
Participates in Firm’s marketing efforts to add new business to the Firm.
Serves as Mentor for Supervisors, Senior Associates, and Associates.
After first year of employment with the Firm, the Manager is encouraged to join a community association related to his/her field. The Manager is also strongly encouraged to hold an officer position in the association. This should be discussed with Mentor prior to joining.
Such other duties as may be assigned.
