At Merck & Co., Inc Manufacturing facility in Elkton, Virginia, we currently have three Senior Manufacturing Supervisor positions available at the Stonewall Plant; which is located in the Shenandoah Valley along the Shenandoah River and the Blue Ridge Mountains. The facility is just a short distance from major state universities: University of Virginia and James Madison University. These three positions are available in our Vaccine and Therapeutic Protein Area.

The successful candidates will have the opportunity to work in Vaccine manufacturing, supporting the manufacture of Gardasil, our vaccine used in the prevention of Cervical Cancer and genital warts and producing Alum; additionally, the successful candidates will have the opportunity to work in the Therapeutic Protein Area manufacturing material for clinical trial for a new product used in the treatment of diabetes. The supervisor will manage the production of vaccine, adjuvant, and bulk biologics and the associated hourly workforce to ensure attainment of business results. The incumbent will effectively collaborate within a team environment with the responsibilities of production execution, effective administration of personnel performance policies and procedures, management of conflict and change, and the identification and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives. The supervisor will work with technical staff in supporting equipment startup, process and area qualification, SOP and training development, process validation, and the training and development of the operating staff to support commercial demand in a biologics manufacturing facility.

The supervisor will perform and participate in safety, environmental, and quality audits and investigations and be involved in implementation of related corrective actions.The Manufacturing / Senior Manufacturing Supervisor will ensure that supervised personnel manufacture products Right the First Time per standard operating procedures and in compliance with cGMPs, safety, and environmental regulations. Due to the high impact nature of this role it is essential that the incumbent demonstrate integrity, credibility, and flexibility in their daily performance so as to motivate others to do the same. Under the general direction of an Area Head/ IPT business lead, the supervisor will also be responsible for coaching and mentoring new supervisors. This position will work various shifts during startup and process validation periods, and ultimately be on a 12 hour rotating shift.

Qualifications Required Qualifications: B.S. with in Business, Science or Engineering with minimum 3 years or High School Diploma/GED and 6 years direct supervisory experienceWork experience in cGMP, monoclonal Antibodies, biological, sterile, vaccine, or pharmaceutical environmentDesired Experience/Skills: Experience with biological processes such as fermentation, Tangential Flow Filtration operations, and low and high pressure chromatography desired.Leadership and interpersonal skills to motivate direct reports and peers to excel and "own" the processFlexibility to perform various tasks to support the business.Lean, Six Sigma problem solving skills coupled with a continuous improvement mindsetDelta V and SAP experience is a plusAbility to prioritize, focus on and obtain business resultsExcellent communication and organizational skills
