Reporting to the Director of Residence Education and during summer conferences, to the Associate Director for Business Operations, this position is primarily responsible for the leadership, implementation, and coordination of the night staff receptionists program in the residence halls. This includes hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating approximately 40 staff members in the residence halls and providing relevant programs pertaining to community safety. This position supervises those who perform community rounds and work at the residence hall front desk assisting in the administration, service and security of the residence halls. The manager coordinates and facilitates the resources, policies, procedures, and programs necessary to support the education and safety of residents, guests, staff, conference clients, and the assets of Housing and Residence Life (HRL). The Manager works in close partnership with all HRL staff and the Old Dominion University Police Department to ensure adequate staff coverage of the residential communities between the hours of midnight and 5 am daily.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to build a strong team and work effectively with others. Ability to multi-task and prioritize work. Strong oral and written communication skills. Excellent customer service skills with a commitment to being client-centered and povide quality service. Ability to work in a diverse work environment and collaborate with campus colleagues, students, and faculty. Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and basic internet tools

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of residence hall living on a college campus or experience working in a student housing program.

Some experience providing student centered social awareness and health/safety related training. Baccalaureate degree in education, sociology, criminal justice, or related field, preferred but appropriate experience related to safety acceptable as an alternative.

Some experience planning/providing crisis management in emergency situations.

Special Requirements

The work schedule is Tuesday-Sunday 9 PM - 6 AM. Weekend work required.
