Manager, Emergency Preparedness, Electric Utility - 1840m Hartford, CT
Manages the development, maintenance and implementation of comprehensive emergency preparedness and restoration plans to optimize company restoration efforts following any event. Specifically responsible for implementing the plan companywide and for full integration of the plan with all affected departments, groups and processes. Included in the scope of responsibility are continuous, proactive updates to the emergency plan; monitoring storm conditions and predictions, making damage and outage projections and selecting an appropriate preparedness strategy; monitoring ongoing events to help ensure proper response and scenario planning.
Responsibilities:
Implements and maintains an effective, comprehensive emergency restoration plan to optimize company restoration efforts following any event; ensures full integration of the plan companywide; ensures integration of support efforts provided by other business units, contractors, vendors, and outside utilities
Effectively coordinates emergency plan development and emergency preparedness with the UTG System Emergency and Preparedness Group
Proactive restoration planning, including: monitoring storm forecasts; monitoring available outage information; ongoing outage assessment/projections; provides timely requests for assistance
Effectively recommends improvements to restoration strategies, planning and budgets
Assists in the development of operating procedures to address abnormal operating conditions, including capacity deficiencies; ensure implementation of company approved procedures
Responsible for coordinating and providing training for individuals with emergency assignments
Communicates in writing and verbally in a clear, effective and timely manner, under both routine and emergency conditions, with all involved in emergency restoration efforts
Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Business or an applied science or similar required
10+ years of electric utility industry experience, including detailed knowledge of power distribution operations, required
Proven leader with previous supervisory experience preferred
Effective communicator with excellent written and oral communication skills
Thorough knowledge of applicable work practices and procedures and safety requirements
Working knowledge of information technology and the use office automation and information systems
Using appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to inspire and guide individuals (subordinates, peers and superiors) toward goal achievement; modifying behavior to accommodate tasks, situations, and individuals involved
