JOB TITLE: Manager of Food Services

REPORTS TO: Director of Operational Reporting

JOB GOAL:

The Manager of Food Services oversees the district’s food services operations and contract(s) to ensure that students receive healthy, nutritious meals and snacks, in compliance with Federal and State guidelines and regulations.

ILLUSTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Manage relationship with contracted food service vendor to provide all YES campuses with an effective and efficient food services operation that complies with Federal and State guidelines and achieves high levels of student participation and customer satisfaction;
  • Monitor and make adjustments to food service operations at YES campuses to ensure that meals and snacks are served in a cost effective manner and that data is properly recorded and documented to support meal and snack reimbursement claims;
  • Coordinate and schedule meal services as needed for extracurricular activities and special events and programs;
  • Monitor and audit food service vendor to ensure that safety standards conform to local, state, federal and insurance provider requirements and regulations and ensure that food service equipment provided by vendors is in excellent operating condition;
  • Work with the Director of Operational Reporting and the YES Controller in creating, implementing and overseeing the food services budget;
  • Monitor and ensure that vendor invoices are reviewed, reconciled, and approved for payment on a timely bases;
  • Compile and analyze data required for all compliance reports and records required by local, state and federal agencies;
  • Attend and present at administrative staff and school board meetings as requested to discuss innovations, issues, and policy and procedures within food services;
  • Stay abreast of innovative techniques and best practices in school food service operations;
  • Additional duties as assigned.
CAMPUS SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Coordinate with Campus Operations Managers to ensure that meal schedules are coordinated with the food service vendor to ensure that daily meals and snacks are available to students on a timely basis
  • Make frequent visits to all YES Campuses to review food service operations, observe food distribution methods, conduct check-ins with campus Operations Managers and School Directors, and assist with special events that may require modifications of the food services schedule as needed;
  • Notify vendors and school staff of any changes to meal schedules and/or menus and follow up and follow through to ensure that changes are implemented successfully;
  • Assist schools in ensuring that breakfast and lunch applications are properly distributed to all students and that the processing of all applications received are done in a timely and proper fashion to ensure that YES campuses are in compliance with Federal and State guidelines and that the district is achieving high rates of student participation in available meal programs;
  • Develop training for school staffs as needed to ensure that all required documentation to support YES claims for meal reimbursement are properly maintained and secured;
  • Assist schools in collecting student meal balances to ensure that the district’s exposure to unpaid balances is held to a minimum;
  • Support School Directors and Campus Operations Managers in gathering information for thoroughly investigating any complaints or health violations regarding food services and ensuring that corrective action is taken;
  • Monitor and work with food service vendor to ensure that services are performed in a timely, cost effective, and efficient manner which meets a high standard of customer service.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

Education/Certification
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution
Experience
  • Prior experience with school food service operations, scheduling meal service at campuses, managing and coordinating food services for extracurricular bus trips and special events, preparing State and Federal food service related reports, and working with school staffs to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction

COMMITMENT AND COMPENSATION :

Length of Work Year:

Year Round position; early morning, evening, and weekend commitments also will be required on occasion
