Summary: Provide strategic direction, planning and execution of agency events to ensure fundraising growth and strong financial and volunteer management. Develop and nurture relationships with key sponsors, donors, board members, leadership board members and volunteers. The Manager of Special Events participates, as needed, in major gift strategy sessions for past and current major gift donors, helping the development team identify and implement strategic engagement opportunities.

• Partner with the VP of Corporate and Foundation Relations to identify and solicit key corporate partners
• Identify individuals through events that can be cultivated as a major gift donors and partner with the Director of individual Giving & Major Gifts to develop strategies for solicitation
• Articulate the Big Brothers Big Sisters mission in all fundraising activity to include key messaging pre and post event
• Identify opportunities for increased revenue through all current events and future events.

The Manager of Special Events is key player in executing all events while developing and cultivating major gift donors and implementing strategic stewardship and cultivation opportunities in all fundraising activities.

Responsibilities:
• Identify, recruit, cultivate and nurture corporate sponsors, committee members and volunteers
• Plan, execute, attend, evaluate and coordinate post-event tasks, as appropriate, for all agency events including: Bowl for Kids’ Sake, annual golf outing(s), holiday party, annual picnic, leadership board events, etc.

Planning to include:
• Definition of event, identification of fundraising target goals, development of event budget, target audience, event messaging/media, required staffing, and other logistical needs

Execution to include, but not limited to:
• Securing volunteer hosts or venue as needed, working with on-site contact (volunteer or staff)
• Creating and tracking event costs and budget
• Creating, seeking approval, producing and sending (in a timely fashion) invitations/notices for all events, tracking responses
• Creating event timeline and/or agendas
• Coordinating all event logistics including food and drink, ancillary materials, creating seating assignments, etc…
• Working with leadership to create message to be delivered and briefing materials on attendees
• Greeting attendees, answering questions, actively participating in event as needed

Post-Event Tasks to include, but not limited to:
• Creating “thank yous” for appropriate representative to host, venue, etc…
• Handle all billing and cost-analysis
• Providing development staff with suggested follow-up steps with attendees, as needed
• Coordinating feedback sessions with agency staff and other stakeholders in order to provide for event enhancement
• Supervise Special Events Coordinator to carry out event efforts as outlined in the agency annual fund development plan
• Play a role in cultivating prospects and developing major gifts within market
• Accountable for growth and budget achievement of assigned events
• Seek underwriting, in-kind donations and auction items for all agency events/efforts
• Other duties as assigned

Mandatory Job Qualifications • An articulated belief in the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters
• 3-5 years of development experience or transferable skills with a proven track record of accuracy and attention to detail
• Bachelor’s Degree Required
• Proven knowledge of computers and software (specifically MS Office – with demonstrated skills in PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Publisher)
• Proven experience in management of deadlines and a strong sense of urgency
• Administration of Raiser’s Edge donor database software a plus
• Major focus on high quality work for all written materials
