JOB TITLE: Manager of Transportation Services

REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities Services

JOB GOAL :

The Manager of Transportation Services oversees the district’s transportation operations and contracts to ensure high levels of safety, efficiency and customer satisfaction.

ILLUSTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Manage relationship with contracted bus companies to develop and maintain efficient and effective route schedules which meet the transportation needs of eligible YES students and which comply with district guidelines;
  • Make route adjustments as needed to improve safety, efficiency and improve customer satisfaction;
  • Coordinate and schedule transportation for extracurricular activities, special events and programs;
  • Monitor and audit bus contractors to ensure that all safety standards conform to state, federal and insurance provider requirements and regulations and ensure that transportation equipment provided by vendors is in excellent operating condition;
  • Work with the Director of Facilities Services in creating, implementing and overseeing the transportation department budget;
  • Monitor and ensure that vendor invoices are reviewed, reconciled, and approved for payment on a timely bases;
  • Compile and analyze data required for all compliance reports and records required by local, state and federal agencies;
  • Advise YES administration about inclement weather conditions that may result in the closing of schools or disruptions to the transportation services provided by the district;
  • Perform disaster duties as needed to respond to extraordinary events (i.e. hurricanes, tornadoes, ice conditions, etc.);
  • Respond to after-hours incident calls as needed;
  • Attend and present at administrative staff and school board meetings as requested to discuss innovations, issues, and policy and procedures within transportation;
  • Stay abreast of innovative techniques and best practices in student transportation;
  • Additional duties as assigned.
CAMPUS SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Distribute, review, and obtain School Director approval of campus bus schedules prior to the start of the school year;
  • Make frequent visits to all YES Campuses to review bus operating procedures, observe route operations, conduct check-ins with campus operations managers and school directors, and assist with special transportation events as needed;
  • Notify vendors and school staff of any changes to routes and schedules and follow up and follow through to ensure that changes are implemented successfully;
  • Develop training for school staffs as needed to ensure safe and reliable management of student transportation at each YES campus;
  • Support School Directors and Campus Operations Managers in gathering information for investigations of school bus accidents and incidents, student safety violations, and any complaints regarding transportation services provided by vendors;
  • Review student behavior reports and participate in conducting conferences with parents, students, and drivers if needed;
  • Monitor and work with transportation contractors to ensure that services are performed in a timely, cost effective, and efficient manner which meets a high standard of customer service.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

Education/Certification
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution
Experience
  • Prior experience with school bus operations, routing and scheduling school bus routes, managing and coordinating extracurricular bus trips and special events, preparing State Transportation reports, and working with school staffs to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction

COMMITMENT AND COMPENSATION :

Length of Work Year:

Year Round position; early morning, evening, and weekend commitments also will be required on occasion
