Manulife Asset Management is actively hiring for a Managing Director, Institutional Sales to cover the West coast region of the United States. The Institutional Sales group sells the products and services of Manulife Asset Management (Manulife AM US) to institutions (e.g., pension plans, investment funds, foundations, trusts) and develops and manages relationships with these institutions.

Responsibilities include:
Sales and Relationship Management

Develop and execute a coordinated direct solicitation program aimed at winning investment mandates for pension plans, endowments, foundations and corporations

Develop detailed knowledge and understanding of the investment strategies used by various portfolio managers within the Manulife AM family

Present knowledgeably on all aspects of Manulife AM US's investment management expertise to institutional prospects. Deliver regular sales presentations and RFP responses to institutional prospects and assist the sales-administration team in the production and delivery of supporting materials.

Work with Marketing, Sales Administration and Investment Management staff (i.e., portfolio managers, client services, legal/compliance, etc.) throughout the firm to design strategic sales solutions and due diligence presentations meeting specific client needs

Maintain close, positive, on-going relations with clients in order to ensure that Manulife AM US is a candidate for future mandates

Business Management

Act as a resource for marketing and product development teams by identifying opportunities, reviewing competitive landscape and testing product ideas

Increase the profile of Manulife AM US within the territory. Build and maintain relationships by working with institutional prospects and clients as a partner; understanding, anticipating and meeting their needs on a timely basis

Increase market awareness and enhance the brand name of Manulife AM US by hosting events, attending conferences, participating in associations and by increasing the firm's market visibility

Servicing and Support

Leverage the expertise of investment experts at Manulife AM US by conducting conference calls, meetings, etc. with clients, either independently or jointly with investment professionals

Research and Development

Provide market feedback to Manulife AM US management on local conditions, competitive threats in order to identify current and future business opportunities in a timely fashion

Leverage learning of competitor's offerings from trade shows and contribute to design of similar products from Manulife AM US


Provide input/assist in preparation of client/internal reports and presentations, RFP's, etc.

University degree, preferably in business, finance or economics. CFA designation is preferred.

5-10 years of direct institutional investment sales experience

Proven track record selling investment management products to institutional clientele

Knowledge of the investment industry, competitive products, distribution systems and consultant trends

Tact, diplomacy and maturity in order to develop and maintain executive level contacts

Possess an enthusiastic, adaptable, forward thinking, self-motivated and energetic manner

Superior communication and presentation skills

Ability to work independently in order to develop a respected regional operation
